Kojima Productions is reportedly searching for its next iconic villain, and the casting description alone is enough to send Metal Gear fans into a spiral.

According to a report from MP1st published April 12, motion capture company Pivot Motion (the same studio that worked on Death Stranding 2: On the Beach) and casting director Mari Ueda are actively seeking talent for several roles in Physint. Shooting is allegedly planned for June 2026, and the project is reportedly being developed under the internal codename “Shimmer.”

The villain description that has everyone talking

The standout detail from the alleged casting call is a villain character with a German accent. The description paints a picture of someone slim, quiet, and deeply unsettling: "intense" with a "confident in a psychotic sort of way" energy. The kicker? The brief reportedly compares the character to Mads Mikkelsen in Hannibal, but with flair.

Here's the thing: that single line tells you a lot. Mikkelsen's Hannibal Lecter is all controlled menace, surgical precision, and an almost aristocratic calm before the storm. Adding "flair" to that template suggests Kojima wants something with a bit more theatrical edge. Think less cold operating table, more grand performance.

Given that Hideo Kojima previously cast Mikkelsen himself in the original Death Stranding, the comparison lands differently here. It reads less like a coincidence and more like Kojima is chasing a very specific emotional register he knows works.

What else the casting call reportedly covers

The villain isn't the only role being filled. The alleged casting documents also mention a mother holding a baby, five teenagers, and two male individuals. All of these roles reportedly connect to some kind of bus hijacking incident, though the specifics of how that scenario fits into Physint's broader story weren't shared.

Kojima himself teased back in December 2025 that the studio would spend 2026 on "casting actors, scanning, and performance capture shoots." The new report suggests that first phase is now underway, though it's worth noting that three cast members were already announced months before any of this.

Cast members already confirmed

When Kojima revealed Physint's debut poster in September 2025, he confirmed that Charlee Fraser, Don Lee, and Minami Hamabe had already joined the project. A glimpse of Hamabe's in-game appearance was included with that reveal, though what any of these characters actually do in the story remains tightly locked down.

The early casting of major roles while simultaneously running new calls for supporting and villain parts suggests Physint is moving through pre-production at a deliberate pace. Kojima Productions clearly has a clear vision of the principal cast while still building out the world around them.

Where Physint sits in Kojima's packed pipeline

Physint isn't Kojima Productions' only active project. OD, the studio's collaboration with Xbox Game Studios, still has no release window. Death Stranding 2 launched less than a year ago. Fitting Physint into that timeline is a genuine puzzle, and no release date has been hinted at yet.

For now, the June 2026 performance capture window gives at least one concrete data point. If shooting starts on schedule, Physint is likely still several years away from players' hands. Kojima's productions are famously meticulous, and a project this early in casting isn't shipping anytime soon.
