Forza Horizon 6's 'Gundam' race ...

Forza Horizon 6 leans hard into Japanese culture, and nothing makes that clearer than Chaser Zero, a towering racing mech that dominates the skyline near the main Horizon Festival hub. Part Showcase Event spectacle, part open-world landmark, Chaser Zero is one of the most memorable things in the game. Here's exactly where to find it, how to race it, and how to grab that photo for the photography challenge.

What is Chaser Zero in Forza Horizon 6?

Chaser Zero is a massive robot built into the Horizon Festival setting, designed to race alongside your car in the Mech My Day Showcase Event. The mech draws clear inspiration from Japan's mecha culture, specifically nodding to the life-size moving RX-78F00 Gundam that stood at the Gundam Factory Yokohama at Yamashita Pier. That real-world attraction featured an 18-meter robot capable of moving its limbs, turning its head, and striking anime poses before it permanently closed in March 2024 due to mounting safety and maintenance costs.

Chaser Zero isn't an officially licensed Gundam, but the homage is obvious. It performs anime-style moves during the race, and the whole event captures exactly the kind of over-the-top spectacle the Horizon series is known for.

How to unlock the Mech My Day Showcase Event

Mech My Day is a Showcase Event, which means it's more spectacle than genuine competition. You cannot actually lose the race against Chaser Zero; the mech conveniently breaks down just before the finish line. The real challenge is getting there.

To unlock Mech My Day, you need to fill your Green Wristband progress bar. Once that bar is complete, Mech My Day appears on the map as the major Wristband Event required before earning the Blue Wristband. The game funnels you toward it naturally if you follow the main campaign, so most players will hit it without any deliberate grinding.

The fastest path to filling the Green Wristband:

  • Complete Horizon Festival races across Japan.
  • Finish PR Stunts and Skills whenever they appear nearby.
  • Keep chipping away at Green Wristband progress until the bar fills.
  • Start Mech My Day when it appears on the map.
  • Finish the Showcase Event to advance into the next Wristband tier.

After completing Mech My Day once, the event is fully replayable at any time from the map.

Where to find Chaser Zero for a photo

You do not have to wait for the race to find Chaser Zero. The mech is present in the open world from the very start of the game, standing at the Horizon Festival grounds before you ever trigger Mech My Day.

Chaser Zero's exact location: north of the Ohtani region, near the main Horizon Festival circuit and hub.

To reach it quickly:

  1. Open the map.
  2. Navigate to the Ohtani region.
  3. Locate the main Horizon Festival hub.
  4. Fast Travel directly there.
  5. Chaser Zero will be visible immediately on arrival.

Why Chaser Zero matters beyond the race

Mech My Day is one of the earliest Showcase Events in the campaign, but it sets the tone for everything Forza Horizon 6 is trying to do with its Japan setting. The mech was teased at the end of the game's Developer Direct, and it delivers on that promise. Racing a building-sized robot through what amounts to a giant anime sequence is exactly the kind of absurd, joyful moment that separates Horizon from other racing games.

Chaser Zero also doubles as a permanent open-world landmark, which means it serves a practical purpose for photography challenges and just gives the festival area a genuinely distinct visual identity. After testing the photo challenge from multiple angles near the festival hub, the clearest shot comes from directly in front of the mech with the festival circuit in the background.
