What are your options for getting out of prison in NTE?

Before getting into the step-by-step methods, here is a quick overview of every exit route available at the Hethereau Detention Center, confirmed across multiple sources including Insider Gaming and GameWith:

How does the Another World... escape work?

This is the most straightforward of the five named escape routes. You are essentially doing a classic movie prison break: hide a tunnel behind a poster, dig through the wall with a stolen spoon, crawl to freedom.

According to both Insider Gaming and GameWith, here is the full process:

1. Interact with the poster on the wall of your cell to reveal a diggable brick section behind it.
2. During lunchtime, steal a Spoon from the counter to the right of the cafeteria. Wait until the woman nearby is facing the washing area before grabbing it.
3. Return to your cell and use the spoon on the bricks behind the poster.
4. One spoon breaks part of the wall. Steal a second spoon the next day and repeat.
5. At night, return to your cell, interact with the poster, and crawl through the completed hole.
6. Navigate the sewer, avoiding the security lights. Getting hit by a light means a guard catches you.

The sewer section requires patience. Stick to the walls and move when the lights are pointed away from you. Follow the path all the way to the ocean to complete the escape.

How does the Be Like Water escape work?

This method also ends in the sewer, but you enter through the exercise yard rather than your cell wall. The key item here is Concentrated Disinfectant, which you steal from the infirmary.

1. During recreation time, talk to a guard and select "I'm not feeling well..." to get sent to the infirmary.
2. In the infirmary, talk to the Feigning Prisoner on the bed. They will distract the doctor for you.
3. While the doctor is occupied, grab the Concentrated Disinfectant from the medicine shelf near the storage cabinet.
4. Head to the exercise yard behind the cafeteria. The sewer grate you need is next to the basketball court.
5. Apply the disinfectant to the grate. Nothing happens immediately.
6. Return the next day during recreation time. The grate will be corroded and passable.
7. Enter the sewer and avoid the security lights to reach the exit.

Stealing the disinfectant

How does the Cheat Death escape work?

This is the most NPC-dependent route and takes at least three in-game days. The goal is to obtain a drug called Restinol, inject it, fake your death, and wake up on a boat heading away from the island.

Based on walkthroughs from GameWith and Game Rant, here is the sequence:

1. At night, find Living Fossil in the cell at the front of the right-side wing on the first floor. He wants an Asahi Inori doll in exchange for something useful.
2. Go to Spider, located in the last cell of the left-side wing on the first floor. Ask him about the "Asahi Inori doll..."
3. Wait one full day. Return to Spider and collect the doll.
4. Bring the doll to Living Fossil and receive Restinol.
5. Get yourself to the infirmary (talk to a guard or provoke Tornado as described above).
6. In the infirmary, carefully steal the syringe from the cart while the doctor is looking away.
7. Use the Restinol with the syringe. A cutscene plays where your character passes out and wakes up on a boat.

According to Game Rant, getting caught stealing the syringe extends your detention by one day, so time the grab carefully.

How does the Extreme Sports escape work?

This is the longest method, requiring you to collect four items across multiple time periods before you can access the roof and jump off the sea-facing wall. Insider Gaming confirms you need two Grimy Detention Uniforms and two Bed Sheets.

Here is where to find everything:

• Bed Sheet 1: In a cardboard box outside the infirmary during recreation time.
• Bed Sheet 2: Inside the Show-Off Prisoner's cell on the third floor of the right-side wing. Talk to him and select "Warden's looking for you" to get him out of the way.
• Grimy Uniform 1: On a bench on the first floor of the left-side wing at night.
• Grimy Uniform 2: In the first cell on the second floor of the left-side wing at night.

Once you have all four items:

1. Enter the black building on the ground floor and steal the Watchtower Key from the desk while the guard is facing away.
2. Advance time to morning and call a guard. Select "I'd like to do some work" then "I'd like to do some cleaning" then "Up to the roof."
3. On the roof, walk to the fence on the sea side and select "Escape."
4. Climb down the rope and jump into the water.

After landing in the water, you can either take the parked boat back to the city port or fast travel to any Wertheimer Tower or Rero Rero Phone Booth, as confirmed by Game Rant.

How does the Into the Chaos escape work?

This route involves starting a prison fight, meeting an NPC named Hermit Crab, and using a blackout he causes to sneak out through a side door.

1. Steal a Spoon from the cafeteria during lunch.
2. During yard time, find Tornado in the exercise yard and select "Stop" to trigger a fight. You will be thrown back into your cell.
3. Hermit Crab will appear outside your cell and speak to you. After the conversation, end your yard time.
4. At night, go to Hermit Crab's cell on the third floor of the right-side wing. Give him the spoon. He causes a blackout.
5. Navigate the hallway: turn on a faucet to distract a guard, hide in a locker until the guard moves toward the sink, then slip into the room the guard vacated.
6. Grab the Side Door Key from the desk in that room.
7. Exit through the door ahead, avoid the searchlights by hiding behind trash bins, and use the Side Door Key on the door to the right.
8. Reach the docks and take the boat.

According to Game Rant, completing this route rewards you with a Star Weekly magazine, which you can use to unlock the Unconventional Attire outfit for your character.

What is the parkour escape method?

This sixth method is not listed on the official Path of Redemption board inside the prison. Players discovered it independently, and as Insider Gaming notes, it may not be intentional and could be patched in a future update.

The process involves carefully walking along the chain-link fence in the yard near the basketball court. The movement is slow and precise. Falling means starting over. Once you reach the corner of the basketball court, movement becomes slightly easier across the next section of fence. From there, jump up onto the outer wall ledge, leap over, and follow the path down to the docks where a boat is waiting.

It requires no items and no NPC interactions, which makes it the fastest route if you can manage the movement. Given its unofficial status, do not count on it being available indefinitely.

Should you just pay the fine instead?

Paying 30,000 Fons to a guard is the only instant solution, and it also works with fast travel. If you are later in the game and have the currency, it is the path of least resistance. Early on, that amount is steep, and the escape routes above let you keep your Fons while also earning rewards for completing them.

One additional thing to keep in mind, confirmed by GameWith: you cannot always reuse the same escape method. The game may block a route you have already completed, so knowing multiple methods is worth the effort.
