Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced ships with 38 outfits for Edward Kenway, and none of them carry stat bonuses or passive abilities. That is a deliberate design choice in the remaster, stripping the original game's outfit perks entirely and making the whole wardrobe purely cosmetic. The result is a collection that exists purely for style points, which somehow makes hunting them down feel even more satisfying.
What changed from the original Black Flag
The original Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag tied several outfits to gameplay bonuses. The Mayan Outfit, for example, made Kenway practically invisible to enemies. That system is gone in Resynced. Every outfit now sits in a purely cosmetic slot, which levels the playing field but also removes one of the bigger incentives to chase specific unlocks. The upside is that you can wear whatever looks best without second-guessing the mechanical tradeoffs.
The total count has also expanded significantly. The base game covers around two dozen outfits, with the rest split between DLC packs and the live-service Animus systems. More could arrive through future updates.
Story, exploration, and quest rewards
The largest single category covers outfits tied to story progression and open-world exploration. Several unlock automatically as you play through the main campaign, including Edward Kenway's Robes, Duncan Walpole's Robes, and the Foreign Diplomat Disguise. These are essentially freebies for anyone finishing the story.
The more interesting unlocks require deliberate effort. The Templar Armor drops from completing the Templar Hunts quest line. The Master Assassin Outfit is a reward for finishing the Art Lover quest. Haytham Kenway's Overcoat unlocks only after collecting every Character Portrait in the game, making it one of the more involved completionist rewards.

Merchants, trading, and the Great Inagua store
A second category of outfits runs through the economy systems at Great Inagua. Upgrading the General Store there to level 2 unlocks the Politician's Outfit, Privateer Outfit, and Merchant Outfit for direct purchase. The base Pirate Cloak is available from any General Store without needing the upgrade.
The Treasure Dealer on Great Inagua handles a different set: the Feline Pelt Outfit, Whaler Outfit, and Shark-Hunter Outfit all require trading animal materials rather than gold. DLC packs and the free option
Four paid DLC packs each add an outfit to the roster:
Blackbeard's Crimson Outfit came with the Crimson Pack pre-order bonus. If you missed it, there is currently no confirmed alternate unlock path.
The one genuinely free DLC outfit is the Nomad's Bronze Ensemble, available directly through the in-game store at no cost. Worth grabbing immediately if you have not already.
Animus Projects and the Exchange
The live-service side of Black Flag Resynced introduces two more outfit sources. Animus Projects function like a battle pass: activate a project, accumulate Data Points through play, and progress toward tiered rewards. Three outfits sit behind specific projects:
- Dark Animus Corsair Robes: Eye in the Dark Animus Project
- Yasuke's Yoroi: Undertow Animus Project
- Naoe's Robes: Riptides Animus Project
The Animus Exchange operates separately, letting you spend Keys collected from around the game world. Both Connor's Outfit and Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad's Robes cost 3,000 Keys each, making them among the most resource-intensive unlocks in the entire wardrobe.
