Amazon's annual Gaming Week sale is officially live, and the honest take is this: it's not the most spectacular sale the retailer has ever run, but there are some genuinely sharp deals buried in there if you know where to look.
The sale runs from April 27 through May 4, covering PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox titles across several publishers. No single blockbuster deal is doing the heavy lifting this year, but between Square Enix, Capcom, and a couple of hardware bundles, there's enough to make it worth your time.
Square Enix is carrying the sale
Square Enix titles are the clear MVPs of this year's event. Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake has been cut to $29.99 from $59.99, a straight 50% off that makes it one of the best value picks in the entire sale. Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined is down to $49.99 across PS5, Xbox, and Switch 2, and Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade on Switch 2 drops to $29.99.
For JRPG fans who have been waiting for prices to come down, this is a decent window. FF7 Rebirth on PS5 is also in the mix at $29.99, which is worth noting given how much content that game packs in.
Capcom's Resident Evil lineup hits $15.99
The other standout category is Capcom's survival horror back catalogue. Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 3 are all sitting at $15.99 on PS5, down from $29.99. That's a 47% cut across three of the best remakes in recent memory.
Resident Evil 7 Gold Edition matches that $15.99 price point too, which means you could pick up four games in the series for under $65 combined. If you've never touched the modern RE remakes, there's no cheaper entry point than this.
Resident Evil 4 is widely considered one of the best remakes ever made. At $15.99, it's the single easiest recommendation in this entire sale.
The sleeper pick nobody should skip
Here's the thing: the smartest buy in the whole sale might not be the flashiest one. Hitman: World of Assassination is down to $19.99 from $29.99, and it's an absurd amount of content for that price. Three full games, years of post-launch missions, and some of the most replayable level design in the stealth genre.
There's also a timely reason to grab it. IO Interactive's upcoming Bond game, 007: First Light, releases May 27, and Hitman is essentially a masterclass in the same design philosophy. Playing through it first is a solid way to get a feel for what IO does best before that launch.
Nintendo hardware and eShop discounts
On the hardware side, Nintendo is bundling the Switch 2 with Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 for $499.99, a $20 saving over buying separately. That bundle deal runs under a separate promotion ending May 9, so it technically outlasts the main Gaming Week sale.
With Sony having already raised PS5 prices in several regions due to global economic pressures, there's a real argument that Switch 2 pricing could follow a similar path at some point. Picking up the bundle now at the current price is the safer play if you've been sitting on the fence.
Nintendo eShop gift cards are also discounted by 10%, with a $10 card going for $8.98. Not dramatic, but if you're already planning a digital purchase this week, it's effectively a small rebate for no extra effort.
What's missing and what to expect next
The sale is noticeably light on first-party PlayStation and Xbox titles, and there's no major hardware deal for PS5 or Xbox Series X. If that's what you're holding out for, Amazon Prime Day this summer is the more likely window for those categories.
