Total War: Warhammer 3 Lords of the End Times DLC arrives September 24

Creative Assembly has locked in September 24 as the release date for Lords of the End Times, the next paid expansion for Total War: Warhammer III. The studio is calling it the biggest DLC in the series' 10-year history, and that's a bold claim given how much content has shipped since the original game launched. Alongside it comes a free update that's shaping up to be just as substantial.

The expansion packs in four new legendary lords, each carrying their own campaign mechanics, battle map abilities, and retinue. The headline act is Nagash, the supreme necromancer, who's hunting down his magical tomes and rallying his Mortarch lieutenants with the goal of turning the world into one enormous boneyard. His campaign sounds like a collector's quest with apocalyptic stakes.

Four lords, four very different agendas

Hot on Nagash's heels is Thanquol, the skaven grey seer, who rides a rat ogre and brings a masterplan system to the table. These masterplans let him execute heists and dark rituals to undermine rival factions, though the system apparently has a habit of blowing up in his face. Classic skaven.

The Empire side of things gets Boris Todbringer, elector count and devoted servant of the wolf god Ulric. His campaign revolves around building fervor through battlefield victories, then channeling that fervor into constructing a wolf temple, upgrading its sanctuaries, and performing winter rites that buff his armies. He also carries a sword called Legbiter, which does exactly what it sounds like.

Rounding out the four is the Glottkin, the Befouled Brothers of Nurgle. Three brothers, one campaign: one wields a scythe, one carries a staff, and both ride on the shoulders of the third. Their faction specializes in spreading corruption and converting settlements into plague gardens, giving them access to a higher proportion of Daemonic Nurgle units than any other Warriors of Chaos faction.

important
Lords of the End Times ships September 24 alongside the free update. Both arrive simultaneously, so even players skipping the paid DLC will see significant changes to the base game on that date.

What the free update actually changes

The free content dropping alongside Lords of the End Times is where things get interesting for players who aren't planning to spend anything. Neferata, the Vampire Queen, arrives as a free legendary lord, bringing the Vampire Counts some long-overdue attention. The update also includes a full rework for the Vampire Counts faction and a rework for Archaon the Everchosen, plus new endgame scenarios and updated victory conditions across the board.

That's a meaningful amount of content to ship without a price tag. Faction reworks in Total War: Warhammer III have historically shifted how those armies play at a fundamental level, so Vampire Counts players in particular will want to pay attention to the patch notes when they drop.

Where Warhammer 3 goes from here

Total War: Warhammer III already has over a hundred legendary lords at this point, and Lords of the End Times pushes that number higher still. For long-time players, the game is genuinely stacked with content across every faction. The question is whether the September update can bring fresh campaign momentum rather than just adding more pieces to an already crowded board.

For strategy games fans keeping an eye on the broader Total War direction, the more forward-looking announcement is Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000, which Creative Assembly has signaled will challenge some long-standing conventions of the series' combat fundamentals. Lords of the End Times lands September 24, and if you want to get ahead of the new faction mechanics before then, the Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000 guides hub is worth bookmarking as that game's coverage builds out.
