Embark Studios has been teasing a new large Arc enemy since the start of the year, and today that promise lands. The Riven Tides update for Arc Raiders is live on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X as of April 28, and according to Embark it's the biggest content drop the extraction shooter has seen since its launch last October.

Meet the Arc Turbine

Here's the thing about the Arc Turbine: it's not a ground-pounding bruiser you can kite in circles. This cone-shaped Arc foe flies, which already separates it from anything previously in the game, and it carries defensive countermeasures to punish raiders who get too aggressive. Embark had committed to adding a new large Arc before the end of April, and the Turbine is that delivery.

Taking it down will clearly require coordination. The key here is that a flying enemy changes how squads need to position and communicate, which is a genuine shift from the ground-level chaos Arc Raiders typically throws at you.

The Riven Tides map and what's different about it

The new map shares its name with the update and drops players into a Rust Belt setting along a coastline. Three distinct zones make up the area: a resort, a dockyard, and the coastline itself. That's a noticeably different texture from the existing maps, and the trailer backs that up visually.

One addition specific to this map is the Dockmaster's Detector, a new minor map condition that lets players beachcomb for loot rather than fight for it. For squads who'd rather scavenge smart than push every engagement, that's a meaningful option.

Everything else in the patch

Beyond the map and the Turbine, Riven Tides packs in a solid amount of supporting content:

  • A new Avian Alarm five-stage raider project
  • New cosmetics across the board
  • PSSR support for PlayStation 5 Pro owners
  • A new Expedition window running until May 11
  • The Last Resort limited-time event, active from April 28 through May 25

The Last Resort event tasks players with finding ship models to earn Merits. Those Merits convert into Raider Tokens, the Junior Outfit, and the Hydrologist backpack. It's a cosmetic-focused reward track, but the ship model hunt adds a specific reason to explore the new map thoroughly.

Why this update lands differently

Arc Raiders has been on a monthly update cadence in 2026, but most of those drops have been incremental. A new map plus a new large Arc enemy in the same patch is a different weight class entirely. The Riven Tides map gives players a fresh environment to learn and fight over, and the Arc Turbine gives high-level squads a new target worth organizing around.

For anyone who has been checking in occasionally but not playing consistently, this is the update that makes returning feel worthwhile rather than like homework. Browse our latest gaming news to keep up with what else is dropping across the extraction shooter space this month.

The Riven Tides content is live right now. The Arc Turbine isn't going to ground itself, so you'll want to get coordinated before someone else figures out the optimal approach first. Check out our gaming reviews if you want the full picture on Arc Raiders before jumping back in.
