Black Flag Resynced trailer ...

Ubisoft called the Assassin's Creed Black Flag remake "the worst-kept secret in gaming." That was supposed to be the end of the leaks. It was not.

Just days after Ubisoft officially confirmed the remake exists and announced a reveal showcase for Thursday, April 24, a clip from what appears to be the actual reveal trailer found its way onto X. The footage shows protagonist Edward Kenway fighting alongside Blackbeard during a naval battle, complete with cannon fire, cutlass combat, and Kenway taking the ship's wheel. Blackbeard even gets a moment with a telescope, because of course he does.

A leak history that reads like a comedy of errors

Here's the thing: this latest slip is just the most recent entry in what has become one of the most spectacular pre-announcement leak runs in recent memory. The Black Flag remake's existence was blown open by PEGI age rating boards, anonymous industry sources, and at one point, a statue manufacturer who apparently assumed everyone already knew.

Twice.

Then Matt Ryan, the voice actor for Edward Kenway, confirmed the project by telling fans they might want to replay the original. Ubisoft reportedly threatened to sue him over it. He went quiet. The leaks did not.

At some point Ubisoft stopped fighting it and started leaning in, posting memes about the situation. That pivot landed well enough, and the official confirmation followed shortly after, with the full reveal set for a showcase at 9am PST / 12pm EST / 5pm GMT on April 24.

What the leaked footage actually shows

The clip is short, but there is enough there to get a read on the visual direction. Fans have already posted comparison screenshots on X showing noticeably more detailed character models and improved lighting versus the original. The remake is apparently dropping the "4" from the title, going simply with Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced.

Ryan also delivers the line "so let the Black Flag signal nothing but your allegiance to man's natural freedoms" in the leaked clip, confirming he is back for the remake despite the earlier legal friction. The key question for fans who already own the 2013 original is whether the visual and gameplay upgrades justify a full repurchase. Based on the footage so far, the glow-up is genuine but not transformative.

What comes next for the leakiest game in recent memory

The official showcase will give the first proper look at what Ubisoft has actually built here. Given the original Black Flag's reputation as one of the best entries in the series, and the return of its original creative director to help guide the project, there is genuine interest behind all the chaos. For the latest gaming news and latest reviews as the showcase coverage rolls in, you'll want to keep a tab open.

The April 24 showcase is the moment Ubisoft finally gets to control its own narrative on this one. Whether the hull of Kenway's ship proves less leaky than the project itself remains the only question left worth asking. Check back for full guides coverage once the game's details are officially confirmed.
