inXile Entertainment's Clockwork Revolution has a release window and a platform strategy that will leave PlayStation owners empty-handed. The steampunk first-person RPG is coming to Xbox Series X/S and PC in 2027, confirmed as a console exclusive at this week's Xbox Games Showcase.

The Heist trailer and what it actually shows
The new gameplay trailer, titled "The Heist," is the most substantial look at Clockwork Revolution yet. It runs through a mix of gadget-heavy combat, time-manipulation powers, and the game's clockwork steampunk aesthetic with a clear sense of humor threaded through it. Players are introduced to Morgan's crew, the Rotten Row Hooligans, which suggests the game has a proper cast of characters rather than just a silent protagonist wandering through a pretty world.
The BioShock comparisons are going to keep coming, and honestly the visual DNA is hard to ignore. But inXile has previously said the game draws heavier influence from other titles, and this trailer does hint at more systemic RPG depth than a straight shooter. The official description leans into the time-travel angle hard: "Change the past. Control the future."
Xbox's console exclusive pivot is real
Here's the thing: Clockwork Revolution isn't the only Xbox console exclusive that dropped at the showcase. Gears of War: E-Day was confirmed for Xbox only on the console side as well, making two major first-party titles that won't touch PS5. That's a deliberate shift.
Newly-appointed Xbox CEO Asha Sharma used the showcase to signal a return to platform exclusivity, and these two games are the clearest proof of that direction so far. Both are confirmed as permanent exclusives, not timed windows. PlayStation players aren't getting a delayed release to look forward to.
Clockwork Revolution and Gears of War: E-Day have both been confirmed as non-timed Xbox console exclusives. There is currently no PS5 release planned for either title.
For fans of RPG games who game on Xbox or PC, this is genuinely good news. For everyone else, it's a reason to reconsider their platform setup before 2027.

What inXile brings to this project
inXile Entertainment has been under Microsoft's umbrella since 2018, known for Wasteland 3 and the studio's history with deep, system-driven RPGs. Clockwork Revolution represents a significant departure in setting and perspective, going first-person and leaning into action alongside the RPG mechanics. Former Saints Row developers also joined the project during development, which might explain some of the personality visible in the Rotten Row Hooligans introduction.
The studio's track record with complex RPG systems gives the time-manipulation premise some credibility. Rewriting history as a core mechanic could either be a gimmick or the foundation of something genuinely interesting. Based on what the trailer shows, inXile seems to be treating it as the latter.
Where this lands for Xbox's 2027 lineup
With Gears of War: E-Day slated for 2026 and Clockwork Revolution penciled in for 2027, Xbox is building out a first-party calendar that actually has some weight to it. Two major exclusives in back-to-back years from established studios is a different story than the platform has been able to tell for a while.
PC players on Game Pass will have access alongside the Xbox launch, so the audience isn't purely console-bound. Still, the console exclusivity declaration is the bigger story here, and it's one that Microsoft is clearly committed to holding.
