Seven dollars. That's what it costs right now to own Dead Island 2 and every piece of DLC it ever got on Steam. For context, a large coffee costs more than that.

Deep Silver is running a sale to mark the three-year anniversary of Dead Island 2's launch, and the discounts are genuinely hard to ignore. The base game sits at $5, which is already a deal for a zombie RPG that runs 15 to 20 hours on the main campaign alone. But the real value is the $7 bundle that packs in the base game plus both DLC expansions, giving you even more Los Angeles to tear through with a flaming axe.

What's actually included at each price point

Here's the lowdown on what you're getting at each tier:

The two extra dollars for the DLC bundle is a no-brainer if you're buying in anyway. Both expansions add new areas and story content on top of an already sizeable base game.

As for the other Dead Island spin-offs in the franchise sale? Skip them. The source is blunt about it, and that's the right call.

Why Dead Island 2 holds up three years in

Dead Island 2 had a notoriously long development cycle before finally landing in April 2023, and the finished product turned out to be a genuinely fun time despite the wait. Set across a highly detailed, sun-soaked version of Los Angeles, the game leans hard into its over-the-top tone, letting you craft increasingly absurd weapons and carve through zombie hordes either solo or in co-op with a friend.

The key here is that the moment-to-moment combat still feels satisfying in a way that a lot of zombie games miss. Slicing through an undead with a fire-modded sword has a physical weight to it that keeps the loop engaging well past the main story. The world design rewards exploration, and players who dig into the side content will comfortably push past 20 hours.

It's not perfect. Some of the boss fights are genuinely frustrating, and the semi-open structure means you're not getting a true open world. But at $7 for the complete package, those complaints shrink considerably.

The full Dead Island franchise is on sale too

If you've never touched the series at all, this is a decent entry point into the franchise's history. The original Dead Island and its standalone expansion Dead Island Riptide are both available for under $5 combined. Those games are older and rougher around the edges, but they have their own cult following and offer a different take on the zombie RPG formula set on a tropical island rather than a California city.

The franchise sale is live on Steam through Deep Silver's storefront page and runs until April 27 alongside the Dead Island 2 deal.
