Six cracked eggs huddled together, communicating telepathically, and somehow classified as a single Grass/Psychic-type Pokemon. Exeggcute has always been one of the franchise's weirder concepts, and that's exactly why it has stuck around since Generation 1.
Here's the lowdown on everything that makes Exeggcute worth knowing, from base stats to the full evolution chain.
What kind of Pokemon Exeggcute actually is
Exeggcute sits at National Pokedex number 102 and carries a dual Grass/Psychic typing that makes it genuinely unusual. Its only ability is Chlorophyll, which doubles its Speed stat in harsh sunlight, with Harvest available as a hidden ability. The gender split is a clean 50/50, and its catch rate of 90 (roughly 20.1% with a standard Poke Ball) means it's not especially difficult to grab once you find it.
One detail most players miss: the more cracks on Exeggcute's shells, the closer it is to evolving. It's a small visual cue baked right into the design.
Base stats and what they tell you
Exeggcute is not built to fight. Its stat spread makes that clear.

- Attack: 40
- Defense: 80
- Sp. Atk: 60
- Sp. Def: 45
- Speed: 40
The key here is that 80 Defense is the standout number. Everything else sits in the 40-60 range, which is pre-evolution territory. Exeggcute is a stepping stone, and its stats reflect that. The Chlorophyll ability at least gives it a path to relevance in sun team compositions before you evolve it.
Type matchups: more resistances than you'd expect
The Grass/Psychic combination gives Exeggcute a surprisingly long list of resistances alongside some painful weaknesses.
Seven weaknesses is a lot. Bug and Fire are especially common in competitive play, so you'll want to be careful about when you bring Exeggcute into a fight. The six resistances are solid, though, and Psychic resistance is a nice bonus given how many Psychic-type moves you'll encounter.
Dark-type moves deal double damage to Exeggcute, and Ghost-types bypass its Normal-type immunities entirely. Keep it away from both.
Where to find Exeggcute across every generation
Exeggcute has appeared in nearly every mainline game, though availability varies a lot by title.
- Gen 1: Safari Zone in both Red/Blue and Yellow
- Gen 2: Routes 26, 27, and 34-39 in Gold/Silver; expanded route availability in Crystal
- Gen 4: Great Marsh in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum; widespread in HeartGold/SoulSilver
- Gen 7: Ancient Poni Path, Exeggutor Island, and Poni Wilds in Sun/Moon
- Gen 8 Isle of Armor: Insular Sea, Stepping-Stone Sea, Workout Sea, and several other zones
- Gen 9 Hidden Treasure of Area Zero: Savanna Biome, Coastal Biome, Torchlit Labyrinth, and one-star Tera Raid Battles
In Scarlet/Violet base game and Legends: Z-A, Exeggcute is unobtainable without trading. If you're playing the Indigo Disk DLC content, the Hidden Treasure of Area Zero locations are your best bet.
For Pokemon Pokopia players, you need to build either the Shaded Beach habitat (large palm tree plus a beach chair) or the Tropical Vibes habitat (large palm tree paired with four seashore flowers) to get Exeggcute to appear.
Exeggcute's moveset: the highlights
Exeggcute learns a mix of Grass and Psychic moves as it levels up. Hypnosis at level 1 is immediately useful for catching other Pokemon, and Solar Beam at level 55 is the big late-game payoff. The TM list is extensive, with standouts including Energy Ball, Leaf Storm, Psychic, Stored Power, and Sludge Bomb for coverage.
For egg moves, Sleep Powder and Stun Spore are the most practical picks, giving Exeggcute reliable status options that work well before it evolves.
The evolution: Leaf Stone required
Exeggcute evolves into Exeggutor when exposed to a Leaf Stone. There's no level threshold or friendship requirement. If you're playing in Alola (Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, or Ultra Moon), the same Leaf Stone evolution produces Alolan Exeggutor instead, the famously tall palm tree variant with a Dragon secondary typing.
Exeggutor is the final form. There's no third stage.
