Fable Gameplay Reveal | Xbox Stops ...

GTA 6 hasn't even launched yet and it's already reshaping the release calendar for games that have nothing to do with Rockstar.

According to Jeff Grubb of Giant Bomb, Microsoft has internally shifted Fable out of its Autumn 2026 window. Speaking on his podcast this week, Grubb was direct: "I've heard that Fable has been pushed internally." He was careful to add that a 2026 release is still on the table, but Microsoft is reportedly "worried" about the proximity to GTA 6, which is currently locked in for a November 19, 2026 launch.

The GTA 6 problem nobody wants to talk about

Here's the thing: Autumn 2026 covers September, October, and November. That last month is where things get complicated. A slip from, say, October into late November puts Fable dangerously close to GTA 6's launch date. And if it slides into December, Grubb's logic holds up: December is historically the quietest month for major releases, with players already deep in holiday backlogs.

Grubb laid it out plainly. If Fable gets pushed past GTA 6's release and lands in December, Microsoft might decide it's smarter to hold until early 2027 rather than launch a flagship RPG into a dead zone. The comparison to Avowed is hard to ignore here. That game slipped from late 2024 to February 2025 for similar breathing-room reasons, and it was widely seen as the right call.

danger

This is based on insider reporting from Jeff Grubb, not an official Microsoft announcement. No formal delay has been confirmed by Playground Games or Xbox Game Studios at the time of writing.

What Microsoft's 2026 lineup actually looks like

The tricky part for Microsoft is that Fable isn't the only major title they're juggling this year. The publisher is also bringing Forza Horizon 6, Halo: Campaign Evolved, and Gears of War: E-Day to Xbox Series X|S and PS5 across a compressed three-to-four month window in late 2026. That's an enormous amount of first-party weight stacked into a single quarter, and that's before factoring in GTA 6 eating up consumer attention and wallet share for weeks after its release.

For context, Microsoft pulled a similar move with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which launched in early December 2024 on Xbox Series X|S and PC. That worked out reasonably well, but Fable carries far more expectation as a full-on franchise revival after more than 15 years.

What this means for players waiting on Fable

The honest read is that a 2027 launch might actually serve the game better than a rushed holiday 2026 window. Playground Games is attempting something genuinely ambitious here, rebooting a beloved RPG series with a new tone, a new lead, and a completely different approach to the Albion world. Releasing that into the teeth of GTA 6 mania would be commercially questionable at best.

What most players miss is that the risk isn't just about sales numbers. A game launching in GTA 6's shadow gets less review attention, less streaming coverage, and less word-of-mouth momentum during its most critical first two weeks. For a franchise reboot trying to win over skeptics, that opening window matters enormously.

Microsoft has not officially confirmed any change to Fable's release window. The Xbox Games Showcase in June will likely be the first opportunity for clarity, and that's where you'll want to be paying attention. Keep an eye on gaming news for any official updates as they come.
