In a strategic decision, Hytopia, the web3 game and creator platform, has migrated its L2 Hytopia Chain from Polygon to Arbitrum. The move comes after Polygon discontinued support for their Polygon Edge software in December 2023, forcing Hytopia to handle fixes and improvements on its own. The team says they needed "a reliable partner with continued support" and found it in Arbitrum.
HYTOPIA, previously known as NFT Worlds, also recently raised $3 million in funding with backing from Delphi Digital and Delphi Ventures. HYTOPIA is building a platform for social play and creator-made games in a voxel-like setting using a new engine built from scratch. The goal is to combine modern social features for players with a flexible, monetizable game creation toolkit for developers — all within a Minecraft-inspired playstyle.

Arbitrum's Practical Advantages
Polygon's decision to drop Edge support left Hytopia without a path forward. Arbitrum's AnyTrust/Nitro technology offers concrete improvements, including a 50% reduction in block times. Polygon's tech delivered 1.1s block times; AnyTrust now runs at 250ms to 500ms. Optimistic block production keeps the chain state lean by generating blocks only when transactions need processing.
Impact on Users
Co-founder ArkDev says the migration will deliver noticeable improvements for players and creators. The AnyTrust stack cuts block times significantly, letting on-chain transactions, content purchases, and trades process more than 50% faster than with Polygon's tech. That speed boost matters most during in-game situations with multiple on-chain actions or high-frequency transactions.
HYCHAIN and HYTOPIA Launch
For 2024, Hytopia has two main priorities. The first is launching and expanding HYCHAIN, which will provide game partners with technologies developed over the past two years — account abstraction infrastructure, cash onramps, and the integration of MetaFab.
The second focus is launching HYTOPIA, a creator platform that blends Roblox and Minecraft. Backed by blockchain for the underlying economy, HYTOPIA has attracted over 3,000 content creators and developers from the Minecraft ecosystem, with more than 1,100,000 pre-registered players waiting for the beta.
Tech Stack Expansion and Ecosystem Integration
The move to Arbitrum supports Hytopia's goal of expanding its tech stack for partner games. Beyond enabling faster and gasless transactions, the switch aims to improve interoperability of player assets and establish an Ethereum-Hytopia bridge. The integration of Hytopia's web3 infrastructure solution, MetaFab, should speed up game launches on the Hytopia Chain.
Post-migration, larger games on the L2 chain can transition to a Hytopia L3 app-chain specific to their game. Hytopia's node operators will earn rewards for running nodes, driving further ecosystem growth.
As part of a major organizational shift, Hytopia has separated its games division from the game development team. The two entities will operate with distinct funds.

Hytopia's migration to Arbitrum is a practical move for better performance, faster transactions, and an improved gaming experience. With these technical upgrades and ambitious plans for 2024, the platform is positioned for growth in the web3 gaming space.
