What Lords of the Fallen actually is
Lords of the Fallen (2023) is a full reboot, not a sequel. It shares a name with the 2014 original but takes place over 1,000 years later. You play a Dark Crusader trying to overthrow Adyr, a demon God, in a world that exists across two overlapping realms at once. That dual-world system, where you shift between the living world and the Umbral realm, is what separates it from the rest of the Soulslike pack.
The game launched in October 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. CI Games reported 1 million copies sold within 10 days of release — a strong start for a mid-budget action-RPG in a genre where FromSoftware owns most of the oxygen.
From March's lineup to April's headliner
March's PS Plus Essential tier set a decent baseline. Subscribers can still claim Monster Hunter Rise, PGA Tour 2K25, Slime Rancher 2, and The Elder Scrolls Online until the morning of April 7. That's a solid mix, and the March lineup was also leaked ahead of Sony's announcement, following the same billbil-kun pattern.
Lords of the Fallen as the April headliner is a noticeable upgrade in production scale. It's a current-gen exclusive (no PS4 version exists) with full open-world design and combat that rewards patience, positioning, and knowing when to bail out.
