Mega Studio Closes Game Development Division

Barcelona-based Mega Studio has shut down its game development division after operating for nearly five years. The studio shipped more than 35 mobile games and apps during that time, with a team that grew to as many as 40 people at its largest. Going forward, the company will operate exclusively as Mega Rewards, a growth-focused business that helps game studios and rewarded platforms scale their marketing and user acquisition.

Founder and CEO Adam Jaffe announced the closure on LinkedIn, calling it "a sad day" for the company. He highlighted the studio's work across both internal projects and external partnerships, managing multiple titles at once and building a varied catalog of mobile releases.

Pivoting to growth services

Mega Studio will continue with a team of four employees. The company is moving away from traditional agency consulting toward what Jaffe describes as a hands-on operator model, working directly with rewarded platforms and developers to improve monetization and expand their audiences.

"This is the end of one chapter and the beginning of another," Jaffe wrote. "We are not a traditional agency. We are a small group of experienced operators who roll up our sleeves and help businesses reach their next level."

Andrei Patrascu, the last remaining developer on the team, has left the company to pursue other opportunities. His departure marks the full closure of Mega Studio's mobile development operations.

What this means for the studio

The move reflects a wider pattern in the industry, where mid-sized studios are stepping back from internal development in favor of growth and marketing specialization. Mega Studio plans to use its background in mobile gaming to deliver targeted scaling solutions, keeping the team small and focused while helping clients grow their platforms more efficiently.

The shift to growth services represents a strategic realignment that could set a template for other studios looking for sustainable models outside of direct game production.
