Sabotage Studio has shipped the last update it plans to release for Sea of Stars, and the studio is calling it exactly what it is: the Sunset Edition. Announced through a video on the studio's YouTube channel, the update lands today across every platform the game lives on, and it brings more than just a farewell wave.
For fans of Sea of Remnants and the broader Sabotage universe, this is a meaningful send-off for a game that turned out to be seven times more successful than the studio anticipated.

What the Sunset Edition actually adds
The headlining addition is a new animated intro cinematic. Sabotage built it to do two things: add some narrative clarity around events that happen later in the game, and serve as a proper bookend on the project's development lifecycle. It's a thoughtful touch, the kind of thing that signals the team genuinely cared about leaving the game in its best possible state.
The balance changes are where things get more interesting for players still grinding through harder content. The Tactician's Mettle relic, which previously bundled multiple difficulty-tuning attributes into one item, has been split into two separate relics: Tactician's Mettle and Ray of Sunset. The intent is to give players a Normal mode experience that demands more engagement without feeling like a wall. Here's the thing: splitting these attributes gives players finer control over how punishing they want combat to feel, which is a smarter solution than just tweaking raw numbers.
Switch 2 upgrade and the GOG launch
Switch 2 owners get the most tangible new feature today. The Switch 2 version of Sea of Stars launches as a free upgrade for anyone who already owns the Switch 1 version, which is exactly how it should work. The bigger addition here is GameShare, which lets up to 3 players jump into local co-op together. For a turn-based RPG built around a small party of characters, that's a genuinely fun way to revisit the game with friends.
Sea of Stars also arrives on GOG.com today, giving players a DRM-free option for the first time. On Steam, the game is currently 50% off, so if you've been sitting on the fence, the timing is hard to ignore.
The Switch 2 upgrade is free for existing Switch 1 owners and adds GameShare support for up to 3 players in local co-op.
The full platform list for Sunset Edition now includes PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, iOS, Android, PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG.
What comes next for Sabotage Studio
With Sea of Stars wrapped, Sabotage CEO Thierry Boulanger confirmed the studio is moving its full attention to its next project, internally called Project Sparrow. Development has been underway for over a year, but the game only recently entered full production. Boulanger was straightforward about it: the project isn't ready to be shown yet. A collector's edition of Sea of Stars is also in the works alongside iam8bit, with details coming at a later date.
Project Sparrow is the one to watch. Given how Sea of Stars landed, the pressure on whatever comes next is real, but so is the goodwill Sabotage built with that run. For now, the Sea of Remnants guides are a solid resource if you want to make the most of the Sunset Edition changes before moving on.
If you're newer to the genre and want broader context on what makes these adventure games tick, there's plenty more to explore while waiting on Project Sparrow news.
