Year 2026 post/visual featuring Alex ...

Alex finally made his Street Fighter 6 debut, and the hype was real enough to push the game to a brand new all-time concurrent player peak on Steam. Then people actually watched his Arcade Mode ending.

The short version: Capcom wrote Alex marrying and impregnating Patricia, who is both his second cousin and his step-sister. Fans are not happy.

How Alex's Arrival Became a Double-Edged Moment

Alex has a dedicated fanbase going back decades. He was the main character of Street Fighter III: New Generation, which was many players' first entry point into the series. So when he finally dropped as a DLC character in Street Fighter 6, the excitement was genuine and the numbers reflected it.

That goodwill took a hit fast.

Every DLC character in Street Fighter 6 gets a custom Arcade Mode ending, a short slideshow that adds new story beats and some unlockable content. Luke's ending has him getting into a street fight with Jamie. Guile's ending sees him trying to patch things up with his brother-in-law, Ken. Normal stuff, as far as fighting game lore goes.

Alex's ending? He marries and impregnates Patricia, his second cousin and step-sister.

The Lore That Makes This Worse

Here's the thing: the relationship between Alex and Patricia isn't new. It goes back to Street Fighter III: New Generation, where a 20-year-old Alex and a 14-year-old Patricia share a scene with Tom, Patricia's father and Alex's adoptive father, as he lies in a hospital bed.

Tom, for what it's worth, is the first cousin of Alex's deceased mother. That's the family tree Capcom decided to build a romantic resolution on.

Some fans are trying to argue that Tom isn't technically Alex's adoptive father, pointing out that this relationship is only explicitly confirmed in ancillary media like the UDON Comics. But as reported by Event Hubs, who first flagged the fan reaction, Alex refers to Tom as his father directly in Street Fighter 6'sWorld Tour mode. That's canon, in the game you're playing.

And even setting aside the adoptive family angle entirely, Alex and Patricia are still cousins. There's no interpretation that makes this a clean story beat.

Why Fans Are Struggling to Accept It

The reaction online has ranged from confused to genuinely upset. A lot of the frustration comes from the attachment people have to Alex specifically. For a chunk of the Street Fighter community, SF3 was the starting point, and Alex was their guy.

To have his return to the spotlight in Street Fighter 6 capped off with this particular story choice feels like a strange reward for years of waiting. The character deserved a moment, and this is the moment Capcom gave him.

It's also worth noting that Street Fighter 6 has otherwise done a solid job with its DLC character stories. The Arcade Mode format works well for quick, satisfying character beats. This ending stands out as an odd exception, and not in a fun way.

What Comes Next for Alex's Story

Capcom hasn't responded to the fan backlash yet. Whether this ending gets addressed in future story content, retconned quietly, or simply left as-is remains to be seen.

For now, Alex is playable, the gameplay itself has clearly landed well given those Steam numbers, and the character's moveset and presence in SF6 are exactly what fans wanted. The story ending is a separate conversation, and it's one that's going to keep going for a while.
