Aion 2 launched globally on October 5, 2026 as a Windows PC game, available through Steam and NC's PURPLE launcher. No PS5 version, no Xbox client, no Switch port. NCSoft producer Namjoon Kim confirmed at Gamescom 2026 that a console version is in preparation, but it comes after the PC launch with no platform names and no release window attached. If you're planning around a couch session on PlayStation or Xbox at launch, that isn't happening yet.

What platforms is Aion 2 actually on?

The global release runs on Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) only, requiring DirectX 12 and 100 GB of storage. That's it for the global service. The Korean and Taiwanese version, which went live on November 19, 2025, is a different story entirely: that regional build supports PC, iOS, and Android with full cross-play and shared progression. None of that carries over to the global game.

Here's the full platform breakdown at a glance:

The mistake most players make is reading about Aion 2's Korean mobile version and assuming it applies globally. It doesn't. The global launch was confirmed as PC-exclusive from the start, and NC America's messaging has been consistent on that point since at least April 2026.

Is Aion 2 coming to PS5 or Xbox?

Here's the short answer: not at launch, and not with a confirmed date at any point after. Namjoon Kim's Gamescom 2026 statement is the only official developer word on consoles: "As a matter of fact, we're preparing a console launch as well. But our priority is the global launch first, and console support will follow after that."

That's a plan, not a release. No specific console was named. No window was given. Any page advertising an Aion 2 PS5 pre-order or a specific console release date is going beyond what NCSoft has actually said.

warning
Several third-party sites list fake Aion 2 PS5 release dates. These are not official. NCSoft has not named PS5, Xbox, or Switch individually in any console announcement.

NCSoft does have recent experience shipping an MMORPG on consoles. Throne and Liberty launched on both PS5 and Xbox Series X/S alongside its PC release, which makes the idea of a console Aion 2 less far-fetched commercially. But "makes sense" and "announced" are two different things, and right now only one of those is true.

Will there be crossplay between PC and console?

Probably not, even once a console version ships. Kim addressed this directly at Gamescom: cross-play between PC and console "probably won't be supported, because the usage and the gameplay are different, and the timing of the launch is different for PC and console." His framing was that it would likely operate as "a separate operation."

Here's why that matters practically: if you start on PC in October 2026 and a console version arrives six months later, your PC progress almost certainly won't carry to console, and you won't be sharing servers with friends who join on PS5. Plan accordingly.

important
Treat the console version and console crossplay as two separate questions. The first is confirmed (undated, post-PC). The second is already signalled as unlikely by the developer.

What about Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck?

Neither has been officially addressed. Switch hasn't been named in any console announcement, and Valve hasn't assigned a Steam Deck compatibility rating to Aion 2. Community testers have reported the game running on Windows handhelds like the ROG Ally at roughly 70 to 80 fps on medium settings, but that's player testing on the Taiwanese build, not an official statement. Treat Steam Deck as unverified until Valve rates it.

Steam vs PURPLE: does it matter which you pick?

For your character, no. Both launchers authenticate against your NC account, so your character isn't locked to a storefront. There are a few practical differences worth knowing:

  • Founder's Pack early access only works on the storefront where you bought it. Buy on Steam, your early access is Steam-only. Buy on PURPLE, same deal.
  • Moving between launchers later is possible. If you signed into PURPLE with your Steam account, just launch through Steam. If you used a standalone NC account on PURPLE, you'll need to link your Steam account through nc.com before switching.
  • Launch Scale Test players on Steam need to uninstall the separate Playtest app and download the full Aion 2 client separately. PURPLE players don't have that extra step.
tip
Both Steam and PURPLE connect to the same servers. Choosing a launcher is purely about how you pay and install, not where your character lives.

Why a console port is harder than it looks

The obvious question is whether PS5 and Xbox Series X can handle Unreal Engine 5 at scale. They probably can. The harder problem is the interface. Aion 2 runs eight classes with individual skill rotations, targeting systems, party management, inventory, PvP mechanics, and a macro system that stacks skills by cooldown priority. Mapping that onto a controller without gutting the depth would require a real redesign, not just button remapping.

NC's Korean guidebook lists a controller layout in beta: X for basic attack, Y for heavy attack, B to dodge or sprint, A to jump, RB plus A to take off or land, with LT, RB, and RT combinations covering skill and item slots. That's a starting point, not a finished console UI. For a game with Aion 2's PvP depth, especially in large-scale Abyss battles where faction balance and precise targeting matter, an underbaked console interface could create real competitive imbalance between input methods.

NCSoft also has a significant infrastructure task already in progress. The global launch runs on Azure's cloud infrastructure to handle simultaneous traffic across North America, South America, Europe, and Asia in 10 languages. Adding console certification, platform-holder requirements, and cross-platform testing on top of that is a substantial additional workload. The PC-first approach isn't surprising given the scope.

What should console players do right now?

If you own a PC capable of running the game (Windows 10/11, DirectX 12, 100 GB free), that's your only option for playing now. A controller can work on PC. NC's FAQ confirms the game is "playable with a controller," though full support was still being evaluated at launch. Steam's controller configuration or third-party mapping software can fill the gap in the meantime.

If you're waiting specifically for a native PS5 or Xbox client, there's no date to wait for. Watch NCSoft's official channels. Don't trust social media leaks claiming a specific console release date, because none have been officially confirmed.

FAQ

Is Aion 2 on PS5?

No. The global version is Windows PC only. A console version is confirmed as coming after the PC launch, but PS5 has not been specifically named and no date exists.

Is Aion 2 on Xbox?

Not announced. The developer confirmed a post-PC console version is in preparation but has not named Xbox or any other specific platform.

Will Aion 2 have console crossplay?

Probably not. NCSoft's producer said PC-console crossplay "probably won't be supported" due to differences in usage, gameplay, and launch timing.

Is Aion 2 on mobile globally?

No. Mobile exists only on the Korean and Taiwanese regional service. NC America confirmed there are no plans for a global mobile version.

Do Steam and PURPLE players share servers?

Yes. All PC players are on the same servers regardless of launcher. The only split is Founder's Pack early access, which is tied to the storefront where you purchased it.

Is Aion 2 on Steam Deck?

Unconfirmed officially. Valve hasn't rated it, and NCSoft hasn't commented. Community testing on similar Windows handhelds shows the game running, but there's no official support statement.
