Update 1.5.5, released on April 24, 2026, adds anniversary haircut options for all six main party members: Gustave, Verso, Maelle, Lune, Sciel, and Monoco. The styles are purchased from Gestral Merchants rather than handed out automatically, so you do need to visit the right spots.
The update also includes a handful of bug fixes. Notably, the Danseuse outfit for Lune and Sciel was causing the character menu to display incorrectly, and that's now resolved. Rest points that couldn't be opened during in-world dialogue are fixed, along with some collision issues and achievement text corrections.

Gustave's anniversary haircut is sold by the Gestral Merchant near Stone Wave Cliffs. According to Destructoid's testing, there are actually three Gestral Merchants in that general area, so if the first one doesn't have it, check the others nearby.
If you're on an endgame save and the merchant near Stone Wave Cliffs doesn't show the haircut, try the other two merchants in that cluster. Community reports suggest the placement can be inconsistent depending on save state.
One detail worth knowing: Gustave's anniversary style gives him the same hair as Verso. Whether that's a deliberate nod or just a fun coincidence is unclear, but it's a good look.

The haircut update is a small thing, but it lands at a genuinely impressive moment for the game. Sandfall Interactive confirmed that Expedition 33 has now sold 8 million copies worldwide, and that figure doesn't account for the substantial number of players who experienced it through Xbox Game Pass, where it was the most downloaded new third-party release in 2025 according to the developer.
The soundtrack has been streamed more than 617 million times, per Sandfall's anniversary announcement. The game also won more Game of the Year awards than any other game in history, surpassing Elden Ring's previous record, according to GameSpot's reporting.
