The Chaos Forest is one of those Abyss puzzles that looks straightforward until you spend fifteen minutes staring at a locked cog wondering what you missed. The hidden door on the far side of the area is the part that trips up almost everyone. Once you know it exists, the whole thing clicks into place fast. Completing this puzzle should take under five minutes once you understand the steps.
How do you reach the Chaos Forest in Crimson Desert?
The Chaos Forest sits inside the Abyss, the sky region of Crimson Desert. You cannot reach it directly from the open world. First, you need to complete the Spire of Insight puzzle and climb to the top. At the summit, a portal waits that teleports you straight into the Chaos Forest area. As noted by IGN's wiki contributors, this location is part of the Path of Providence cluster of Abyss islands.

What skills do you need before starting?
Before you step through that portal, make sure you have the right abilities equipped. Missing one of these means you physically cannot complete the puzzle.

If you plan to use Force Palm while clinging to a wall or disc, hold Q on PC, L2 on PS5, or LT on Xbox to Resist first. Skipping this sends Kliff flying backward off the surface, according to the Game Rant guide.Chaos Forest puzzle solution
Step 1: Open the entrance and clear the vines
From the Abyss Nexus starting point, walk forward and use Nature's Grasp on the wall ahead to lift it open. On the other side you will find the platform covered in thick, thorny vines. Use Blinding Flash (Focused Light) to burn them away completely. This clears the area and reveals the pool of water to the left, which you will need shortly.

Step 2: Cool and place the first battery cell
Look to the right on the central floating platform. You will spot a flat battery cell (referred to as a power block or Abyss chip across sources) that is currently on fire. Use Axiom Force to grab it. Before you can slot it anywhere, you need to extinguish the flames. Carry the burning cell to the pool of water on the left and dip it in. Once cooled, line it up with the square slot near the entrance and use Force Palm to punch it into place. One of the two cog wheels across the area will start spinning.
warning
Do not try to slot the battery cell while it is still on fire. The game will not allow it, and you will waste time repositioning.
Step 3: Cross the chasm and find the hidden door
This is the step most players miss entirely. Use Axiom Force to launch yourself across the gap to the far side of the area, or glide across if you have the ability available. Once over, take the first left and use Blinding Flash again on a second cluster of vines hugging the left wall. Burning them away reveals a hidden door with a gold trim outline.
Use Nature's Grasp to lift the door open and head inside.
Step 4: Place the second battery cell
Inside the hidden room, a second floating battery cell hovers in the air. Grab it with Axiom Force and move it to the slot on the left wall. Use Force Palm (or Force Current as an alternative) to insert it. The slot accepts the cell and the electrical circuit outside begins to align.
Step 5: Prop the door open with an Abyss Fragment
Here is the part that is genuinely clever and also genuinely easy to miss. The power connection inside this room needs to line up with the circuit outside, but the door keeps closing and breaking the link. The fix: pick up one of the Abyss Fragments sitting on the floor in the same room. Use Nature's Grasp to lift the door again, then place the Abyss Fragment underneath it before it drops back down. The fragment props the door open permanently, the circuits connect, and a short cutscene confirms it worked.
Step 6: Activate the central cog
Head back out through the propped door and cross to the center cog of the Chaos Forest area. Climb onto it, hold your Resist button (Q / L2 / LT), then use Force Palm to punch the button in the middle. Alternatively, grab the button with Axiom Force and apply Force Current. Either method triggers the cog, restoring the Chaos Forest and completing the puzzle.
After the activation, head up to the top platform to collect your Abyss Artifact.
What do you get for completing the Chaos Forest puzzle?
Every Abyss puzzle in Crimson Desert awards an Abyss Artifact on completion. These are not just trophy items. According to the DualShockers guide, Abyss Artifacts can raise your character's stats, serve as upgrade materials for weapons, and unlock new entries in the skill tree.
Beyond the artifact, completing Chaos Forest also unlocks the Abyss Nexus for this island. As Game Rant points out, Abyss Nexuses function as fast travel points for areas of Pywel that have no ground-level teleport options. You can teleport to the Nexus and skydive down to reach distant locations faster than riding there.
Chaos Forest itself connects directly to the Roots of Truth island, which is the next puzzle chain in the sequence. The Abyss islands are designed as a linked progression, so clearing one typically opens access to the next.
info
The Chaos Forest is categorized as an Abyss Restoration Challenge, distinct from the Ancient Ruins puzzles found across the main map of Pywel. The reward structure is the same, but the mechanics lean more heavily on ability combinations than environmental observation.
