Fortnite Droid Tycoon Chips guide: Best ...

The Groundmech is one of the most sought-after Droids in Fortnite'sStar Wars Droid Tycoon mode. Players spend hours at the Jawa Sandcrawler hoping one shows up, and many walk away empty-handed. There is no guaranteed spawn method, but there are several approaches that meaningfully improve your odds. Here's what actually works, based on time spent grinding the mode.

Why does the Groundmech matter in Droid Tycoon?

The Groundmech is not just a collectible for your Droidex. It is specifically required to progress through multiple Rebirth levels in Droid Tycoon, including the Gold and Rainbow tier versions later in the progression chain. That means you cannot simply replace it with a higher-credit Droid and move on. You need it, and you will likely need it more than once as you push deeper into Rebirth.

When you do have one active, put it to work immediately. It is likely one of the strongest credit-generating Droids you will own at that stage. The only time you should bench it is if you acquire Droids generating more Credits per second. Even then, send it to the rest area rather than selling it. Selling a Groundmech before you have cleared all its Rebirth requirements is a mistake you will feel later.

Since spawns from the Jawa Sandcrawler are random, your best strategy is to maximize the number of high-quality reward opportunities you create per session. Three methods stand out.

Complete your Daily Missions every session

Daily Missions are the single most reliable source of rare Droids and Upgrade Chips in Droid Tycoon. Waiting at the Sandcrawler and hoping a Groundmech rolls through is passive. Completing Daily Missions is active and yields substantially better rewards. Make clearing these your first priority each time you load into the mode.

Send Astro Mech Droids on launch pad missions

Astro Mech Droids can be dispatched on missions via the launch pads scattered through the mode. Higher-tier missions take longer to complete, but the rewards are significantly better than lower-tier runs. Keep your Astro Mechs active on the highest-tier missions you can access. Letting them sit idle is leaving potential Groundmech drops on the table.

Find a lobby with high-Rebirth players

This one is not officially confirmed by Epic Games, but it is worth knowing. Based on extended testing in the mode, servers where players have a high average Rebirth level appear to produce rarer and higher-tier Sandcrawler spawns more frequently. The theory makes sense from a design standpoint: a lobby full of high-Rebirth players would quickly stall out if only Pit Droids and Gonks kept appearing.

After struggling for several hours to get a first Groundmech in lower-level lobbies, switching to servers with high-Rebirth players produced two or three Groundmech spawns within a single hour. The sample size is limited and this is unconfirmed, but it is worth trying if you have been stuck for a while.

What should you do once you have a Groundmech?

Put it to work generating Credits immediately. If you reach a point where other Droids outperform it on Credits per second, move the Groundmech to the rest area rather than the sell queue. As noted above, Gold and Rainbow tier Groundmechs are required for later Rebirth milestones, so holding onto every Groundmech you acquire is the safest approach.

The Training Droid Practice emote available in the Item Shop is a fun nod to the Droid theme if you want to lean into the Star Wars aesthetic while playing.
