LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is TT Games' first major release since LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga in 2022, and it's arriving with a lot on its plate. Built on Unreal Engine 5, published by Warner Bros. Games, and drawing from over 86 years of DC lore, this is the most ambitious Bat-brick project the studio has ever attempted. Here's everything you need to know before you spend a single stud.
What editions are available and which should you buy?
Two versions of the game exist. The Standard Edition launches on May 22 for $69.99 and gives you the base game. The Deluxe Edition costs $89.99, drops three days earlier on May 19, and bundles in the Legacy Collection, which includes the Arkham Trilogy Pack, the Batman Beyond Pack, and the Party Music Pack. Each of those packs adds seven new suits per playable character, one new Batmobile, and five Batcave props.
Deluxe buyers also get access to the Mayhem Collection, arriving in September 2026. That expansion adds a new story mission starring The Joker and Harley Quinn, seven more suits, another Batmobile, and five additional Batcave props.
Some retailers are already discounting Deluxe Edition pre-orders below the standard $89.99 price, so check around before committing to the full price.

What pre-order bonuses are on offer?
Pre-ordering either edition nets you The Dark Knight Returns suit for Batman. Deluxe pre-orders also get the 72-hour early access window on May 19.
Beyond that, linking your WB Games account at any point before or after launch unlocks an exclusive Golden Age Batsuit for free. That one is available to everyone, not just pre-order buyers, so there's no rush.
Twitch Drops run from May 19 to May 31, rewarding players with extra Batcave props for watching specific streams. Check our LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Twitch Drops guide for the full list of rewards and how to claim them.
There are also QR codes bundled with four physical LEGO DC sets:
- 76331 Batman v Superman Batmobile unlocks the digital car and a gold variant
- 76332 The Batman Batmobile unlocks the digital car and a gold variant
- 76333 Batman & Robin Batmobile unlocks the digital car and a gold variant
- 76330 Batman Logo unlocks a Golden Batman suit
- Buying all four sets unlocks a gold red brick customiser
Unlike previous TT Games releases, there is no physical minifigure or LEGO set bundled with either edition of the game.
Who are the playable characters?
Past TT Games titles leaned on rosters numbering in the hundreds. Legacy of the Dark Knight takes the opposite approach, offering seven playable characters, each with distinct abilities.
You can swap between two characters on the fly during play. Suits are purely cosmetic, with over 100 outfits available based on costumes from across Bat media history, but none of them change gameplay stats or abilities.

How does combat work?
The combat system draws clear inspiration from Rocksteady's Arkham Asylum games. Attacks chain into combos, complete with comic book sound effects, and when your Focus Bar fills up, you unlock over-the-top takedowns. The system rewards aggressive play without punishing you for mixing things up.
Each character has a progression tree accessible at the Batcave's workbench. Upgrades cost a combination of collectible WayneTech chips, gold Skill Bricks, and studs. Batman's Batarang alone branches into several distinct tools: the Batarang Combo for stunning multiple enemies, the Concussive Batarang for crowd clearing, and the Sonic Batarang for disorienting foes.
Prioritize WayneTech chip collection during open-world exploration. They're required alongside studs and Skill Bricks for upgrades, so hoarding studs alone won't get you far.

What is Detective Mode and how does stealth work?
Detective Mode activates a sonar pulse that scans the surrounding area, revealing enemy positions, objectives, secrets, and collectibles. It feeds directly into the stealth system, letting you plan routes around unaware enemies and set up stealth takedowns before a fight even starts. Against groups of enemies, using Detective Mode before engaging is consistently the smarter play.
How long is the game and what's in the open world?
The main campaign runs around 20 core story missions across six chapters, which takes roughly 15 hours to complete. Full 100% completion pushes past 50 hours. For a deeper breakdown of what each stage demands, our how long to beat LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight guide covers every phase.
Gotham City is split across four islands that unlock as you progress. Each island is packed with side quests, combat challenges, driving trials, hidden WayneTech caches, Riddler trophies, Cluemaster puzzle boxes, and Easter eggs. After completing a specific side quest, Gotham's subway system becomes available as a fast travel network.
The Batcave itself is a long-term project. It starts as a bare cave and expands as you spend studs on excavating equipment, eventually becoming a space to store suits, vehicles, and over 250 customisable props and trophies. Bat-Mite stores appear throughout Gotham and inside the Batcave, selling additional suits, props, and trophies for studs.
For tips on building your stud count quickly, the stud farming guide for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight covers multiplier tricks and the most efficient farming methods.

What difficulty settings are available?
Three settings cover the range from casual to punishing:
- Classic: Easy mode with unlimited lives
- Caped Crusader: Tougher enemies with unlimited lives
- Dark Knight: Challenging combat with limited lives
Difficulty can be changed at any point, so there's no reason to lock yourself into a setting that stops being fun.
Does LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight have co-op?
Local split-screen co-op for two players is included, with a drop-in, drop-out system that lets a second player join or leave without interrupting the session. Online multiplayer is not available. If you're planning to play with someone on the same couch, the co-op and multiplayer guide has the full setup details.
If online co-op is a dealbreaker for you, this game doesn't offer it. Local split-screen only.
What platforms is the game on?
The game launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store). A Nintendo Switch 2 version is confirmed for sometime in 2026 but has no release date yet and can only be wishlisted at this point.
For everything else you need before diving into this adventure game, the full LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight guides collection has you covered on every system, mechanic, and secret the game has to offer.
