Angela Sant’Albano Revealed as ‘Gwendolyn’ in Tides of Annihilation in New Trailer

"Gwen is the kind of heroine I love. She carries self-doubt, constantly questioning whether she's enough, but she refuses to let fear make her stand still." That's Angela Sant'Albano describing her new role as Gwendolyn, the protagonist of Tides of Annihilation, and it's a pretty solid first impression from the actor stepping into one of the more anticipated roles in action gaming right now.

Eclipse Glow Studios dropped the news during Gamescom's Opening Night Live showcase today, pairing the casting confirmation with a two-minute cinematic trailer that gave the clearest look yet at the game's world and story.

The casting change that led here

Sant'Albano doesn't arrive in a vacuum. Jennifer English, best known for playing Shadowheart in Baldur's Gate 3, had previously been attached to the role of Gwendolyn before departing production earlier this summer, citing personal health concerns. That left Eclipse Glow Studios with a significant gap to fill on what is clearly a character-driven project.

The replacement they landed is no stranger to high-profile roles. Sant'Albano most recently played Grace Ashcroft in Resident Evil Requiem, so she's already proven she can carry a major action narrative. The transition feels considered rather than rushed.

What the new trailer actually shows

The trailer centers on Gwendolyn wrestling with her situation: stranded in a post-apocalyptic version of modern-day London that has been split into two mirror realms, torn apart by otherworldly entities. The tone is cinematic and heavy on atmosphere, leaning into the Arthurian mythology that sits at the game's core.

Two new characters also appear for the first time: Guinevere and Sir Lancelot. Their roles in the story aren't spelled out, but their presence reinforces that the Knights of the Round Table are woven directly into the gameplay and narrative, not just used as aesthetic dressing.

Eleven languages and a Gamescom playable demo

The trailer wasn't the only announcement. Eclipse Glow Studios confirmed that Tides of Annihilation will launch with full language support for 11 languages, including Brazilian Portuguese. That's a meaningful accessibility commitment for a game with clear global ambitions.

Attendees at Gamescom this week can also play a demo build of the game on the show floor. The demo is described as a portion of a build that was shown to press in China earlier this year, so some players are about to get their first hands-on time with what Eclipse Glow Studios has been building.

No release date, but the momentum is real

Here's the thing: Eclipse Glow Studios still hasn't locked in a release date for Tides of Annihilation. That's the one piece of information that would complete the picture. The game has the world design, the narrative hook, a newly confirmed lead actor with strong credentials, and now a public trailer that puts all of it on display at one of gaming's biggest annual events.

What most players miss in casting announcements like this is how much the voice performance shapes the final product in narrative-heavy action games. Gwendolyn is clearly the emotional center of this story, and Sant'Albano's framing of the character suggests she has a real grip on what makes her work.

For everything else coming out of the game, the Tides of Annihilation guides will be the place to track as more details surface, and you can find broader coverage across all upcoming releases in the gaming guides hub.
