Players diving into Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resyncedat launch may want to exercise caution, as a newly reported bug has the potential to erase several hours of gameplay. Ubisoft has acknowledged the issue and confirmed that a fix is currently in development.
The remake of the 2013 open-world pirate adventure launched today across PC and consoles, with reviewers already spending significant time exploring its updated Caribbean setting. However, one reviewer has highlighted a progression issue involving optional side content that can reportedly block story progression and force players to lose previously completed progress.
Five Hours of Lost Gameplay
Journalist Stephen Totilo of Game File shared a warning on social media, advising players not to leave the Templar Hunt side quest chain unfinished. According to Totilo, the issue resulted in approximately five hours of lost gameplay after a quest progression conflict.
Totilo explained that the problem occurred after progressing several stages into the Templar Hunt questline in Kingston before leaving the region to complete other activities. Upon later returning and triggering a main story mission in Kingston, both the Templar Hunt objectives and the main campaign reportedly prevented each other from advancing, leaving progression blocked.
Despite the technical issue, Totilo noted that he has otherwise enjoyed the experience, describing the game as fun and highlighting several of its new additions as interesting surprises.
Ubisoft's modern remake of the fan-favourite
Ubisoft has since responded to the report, with a company representative confirming that the development team has identified the cause of the bug. According to the publisher, a fix is already in the works and will be released in a future game update. At the time of writing, Ubisoft has not announced a release date for the patch.
Until the update becomes available, players may wish to complete Templar Hunt quest chains before moving too far ahead in the main story, particularly when progressing through Kingston, to reduce the risk of encountering the reported issue.
The bug arrives alongside the launch of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, Ubisoft's modern remake of the fan-favourite pirate adventure starring Edward Kenway. While the remake introduces visual improvements and gameplay refinements, early reviews have suggested it remains a faithful recreation of the original experience, with a handful of new additions and quality-of-life improvements.
With Ubisoft already investigating one of the game's most significant launch issues, players can likely expect additional patches in the coming weeks as the studio continues to support the release.
