Bloodborne Remake Pitch Declined by FromSoftware

For years, fans of Bloodborne have hoped for a modern remake of the PS4 classic. Following the success of Bluepoint GamesDemon’s Souls remake, many assumed the studio would naturally handle such a project. According to Bloomberg, Bluepoint formally pitched a Bloodborne remake to Sony, but the proposal was reportedly rejected by FromSoftware.

The timing of the pitch came after the cancellation of Bluepoint’s God of War multiplayer project in 2025. The multiplayer game, which was said to focus on Atreus exploring the underworld in a cooperative experience, never materialized, leaving the studio looking for new projects. While a Bloodborne remake was the main focus, Bluepoint also reportedly pitched other ideas, including a potential Ghost of Tsushima spin-off, but none of these concepts were approved by Sony.

Possible Reasons Behind FromSoftware’s Decision

Bloomberg does not provide a clear explanation for FromSoftware’s rejection. A possible reason was offered by former PlayStation Worldwide Studios executive Shuhei Yoshida. In a 2025 interview, Yoshida suggested that Hidetaka Miyazaki, Bloodborne’s creator, may want to maintain control over the franchise. Yoshida explained that Miyazaki’s busy schedule and personal connection to the game could mean he prefers no external studio handle the remake. Sony reportedly respects his position, which could explain the studio’s decision.

Implications for Fans and Bluepoint Games

The rejection leaves the future of a Bloodborne remake uncertain. While a version developed by FromSoftware itself remains possible, fans hoping for a remake on modern platforms may have to wait longer. For Bluepoint, the decision followed a period of strategic uncertainty. After the God of War multiplayer project was canceled, the studio’s future was reportedly under scrutiny from Sony executives, contributing to a loss of confidence in the studio’s ability to deliver original projects.

Meanwhile, Sony continues to pursue remakes of its God of War trilogy, though Bluepoint is no longer involved in those projects. The situation highlights both the challenges of handling legacy IPs like Bloodborne and the cautious approach first-party studios take when selecting developers for high-profile remakes.
