Black Ops 7 Season 5 drops on July 23, and Treyarch just laid out the full roadmap. Five new multiplayer maps, four new weapons, a Zombies story finale, Heavy Metal Heroes landing in Warzone for the first time, and one map that literally shrinks you down to fight inside a pinball machine. This is a dense season.
The franchise has come a long way from its World War II roots. Call of Duty® 2 set the standard for boots-on-the-ground combat back in 2005, and watching the series evolve to a point where players dodge a giant rolling pinball while capping objectives is genuinely something.
The pinball map is exactly what it sounds like
Turbo Tilt is the standout addition to the multiplayer map pool. Players are shrunk down to miniature scale and dropped inside a Nuketown-themed pinball machine, complete with a live pinball that rolls across the map and will absolutely ruin your killstreak if you are not paying attention. The map supports both 2v2 and 6v6 modes.
The other four maps cover a wider range. Jubilee is a brand-new 6v6 map set in a rural Japanese town during a festival. Frequency remasters the Black Ops 4 listening center map from within a mountain facility. Dig brings back the fan-favorite small map from Black Ops 2 set at an archaeological site. Descent is built specifically for the parkour-focused Freerun mode.
New modes shake up the playlist rotation
Three new multiplayer modes arrive with Season 5. Overdrive Domination layers a style-kill system on top of standard Domination, where headshots, multikills, and other medal types earn stars that unlock team-wide buffs: perception boosts at 1 star, faster movement at 3, and improved weapons handling at 6.
Gauntlet Rush cycles through five modes in a single match, Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed, Domination, Hardpoint, and Roulette, with each lasting two minutes before the game switches. Kills and objective play build operator enhancements across the whole match.
The classic Cranked mode also makes its Black Ops 7 debut. Kill, or explode. That is still the premise, and it still works.
Four weapons, one very large melee option
The Season 5 weapon pool adds the FG42 assault rifle and Gremlin SMG through the battle pass at launch, with the Mammoth LMG and a Mace melee weapon arriving later in the season. New attachments, camos, and weapon challenges come with the update as standard.
Spectre, the assassin from Black Ops 3 and 4, headlines the Season 5 battle pass. Completing the full pass rewards the Viscera Ultra Operator Skin, the Fission Core Legendary Blueprint for the Carbon 57 SMG, 200 COD Points, and a handful of animated cosmetics.
Heavy Metal Heroes finally hits Warzone
The vehicle-combat mode that started in Blackout is now a Warzone limited-time mode. Heavy Metal Heroes runs as a 50v50 match built around heavy vehicle combat and superhero-style powers earned through operator eliminations. Faster movement, armor regeneration, and mobility abilities like the Flicker and Kinetic Jump from Endgame mode all show up here.
Here's the thing: this is listed as a standard battle royale LTM rather than the Blackout-inspired Black Ops Royale mode, which will disappoint players who wanted it tied to that specific experience. Still, 50v50 vehicle mayhem on Verdansk is hard to argue with.
Season 5 also adds a new Verdansk point of interest called Drone Labs, plus supply drones that players can shoot down mid-match to grab high-tier gear.
Zombies wraps up its Black Ops 7 story
Three smaller Zombies experiences launch on day one: the Eidskallen survival map carved from the Totenreich round-based map, a Starting Room variant for Season 4's Kowakujo, and Rogue Run mode on the Astra Malorum map.
The midseason Reloaded update delivers the real headline for Zombies players: Rex Infernus, the final round-based map and the story conclusion for Black Ops 7's Zombies campaign. The teaser image shows a house strikingly similar to Dr. Monty's home from Black Ops 3's Revelation map, which should send longtime Zombies fans into a full theory spiral.
Treyarch is also celebrating its 30th anniversary this season with a dedicated in-game event, alongside the Machine of War event running across all modes. A Zombies-exclusive leaderboard event ties into the Eidskallen Lighthouse Survival map.
Season 5 is a lot to process before July 23. If you want to get your loadouts sorted ahead of launch, the Call of Duty® 2 strategy guides are a solid reference point for fundamentals, and the broader gaming guides hub covers the wider CoD ecosystem as the new season rolls out.
