The English-language voice cast for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners season 2 is out, and fans have zeroed in on one name above all others: Clancy Brown as veteran edgerunner Weak Kingsley.
Brown is one of the most recognizable voices in entertainment. You know him as Mr. Krabs in SpongeBob SquarePants, as the brutal Kurgan in Highlander, and more recently as Lieutenant Anderson in Detroit: Become Human. That last one is especially relevant here. Playing a hardened, world-weary figure in a gritty near-future setting is basically Clancy Brown's home turf.
Why this casting hit differently
The reaction online landed somewhere between genuine excitement and mild disbelief at how well it fits. "Clancy Brown as Weak has to be one of my top five favorite castings," one fan wrote on Twitter, and the sentiment spread fast. The casting was a personal recommendation from writer Bartosz Sztybor, with executive producer Saya Elder noting that detail publicly, which only added to the enthusiasm.
Here's the thing: Weak Kingsley is described as an older edgerunner, someone who has survived Night City long enough to carry real weight. That profile practically writes itself for Brown, whose voice carries a natural authority that younger actors spend careers trying to develop. The character is also tied to a revenge arc, which means Brown will have plenty of dramatic material to work with.
Some fans admitted they had never watched the show in English before but are reconsidering that for season 2. "Might have to watch the English dub when it comes out now," one viewer said. Another predicted Weak would become "one of the dopest characters in the Cyberpunk universe," and given Brown's track record, that is not a stretch.
The rest of the English cast
Brown is not the only notable addition to the dub lineup. Kimoy Lee will voice Talia Yang, Nazeeh Tarsha takes on D, and Valeria Rodriguez voices Roman Carax. The full cast suggests the production is putting real effort into the English-language version, not treating it as an afterthought the way some anime adaptations have historically done.
Fans who want a first look will not have to wait long. A select group gets to watch the first episode early at the Anime Expo panel on July 3, before the full season drops on Netflix this fall.
What this means for Cyberpunk fans
The Edgerunners anime has always had a strong relationship with Cyberpunk 2077, the CD Projekt Red RPG that shares Night City as its setting. Season 1 actually drove a measurable spike in the game's player count when it dropped on Netflix, with the game briefly returning to Steam's top sellers chart. A well-received season 2 with a cast this strong could do the same thing again.
The key here is that casting someone like Clancy Brown signals confidence in the material. Productions that are uncertain about their product do not go out and land A-list voice talent with decades of iconic roles behind them.
