If you are an Xbox Game Pass subscriber, the back half of August just got a lot busier. Microsoft has confirmed the second wave of games hitting the service this month, and there are some genuinely interesting day-one drops in the mix alongside a handful of Premium tier additions.
What Ultimate subscribers are getting first
The headliner for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass is Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, landing on August 27 as a day-one release. This one is worth paying attention to because it takes a sharp turn from the stealth-and-survival formula that defined Innocence and Requiem. Think closer to Assassin's Creed than the rat-plague horror of earlier entries, with a new setting rooted in authentic Greek-Cypriot culture and a completely different combat and exploration structure. It is a bold direction change, and the fact that it hits Game Pass on launch day makes it a zero-risk way to find out whether the pivot works.
Before that, Blood Dungeon drops on August 25. The pedigree here is interesting: this 2D platformer comes from the team behind Nidhogg, so if you remember that chaotic fencing game, you already have a rough idea of the energy these developers bring to side-scrolling action.
The third Ultimate day-one is Vapor World: Over the Mind, arriving August 19 through the Game Preview program. It is described as a narrative-driven souls-like platformer built around deflection combat, which is a specific enough pitch that it will either click immediately or absolutely will not. Game Preview means it is still in active development, so expect rough edges alongside whatever it gets right.
The Premium tier fills out the rest of the calendar
For Game Pass Premium subscribers, the additions spread across the full wave:
- Egging On (August 18): A game about guiding a fragile egg through dangerous levels, already available now.
- BlazBlue Entropy Effect X (August 19): The roguelite action spin-off from the BlazBlue series, now joining Premium.
- Relooted (August 19): Also arriving August 19 for Premium members.
- Starsand Island (August 20): Hits Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
- Aerial Knight's DropShot (August 25): The follow-up from the developer behind Aerial Knight's Never Yield.
- Young Suns (August 31): Rounds out the month on Cloud, Console, and PC.
All of the above titles are also available to Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers.
One more addition just past the month's end
Shelldiver technically lands on September 1, but it was announced as part of this wave. It hits Cloud, Console, and PC across all three tiers: Ultimate, Premium, and PC Game Pass.
