Minecraft Airship created on Craiyon

A new mod just dropped for Minecraft that makes every other transport addon look like a wooden cart. Create Aeronautics, built as an extension of the already popular Create mod, lets players construct and pilot fully functional vehicles across the game's blocky world, including prop planes, hot air balloons, powered ships, and even working combine harvesters.

What Create Aeronautics actually adds

The mod is organized into three distinct systems, each tackling a different category of vehicle. The first, called Simulated, covers the foundational construction tools that make all of it possible. Think new block types, redstone components, and a slime-based attachment system for binding parts together. It essentially gives Minecraft the kind of contraption-building framework you'd find in a physics sandbox like Besiege.

The second system is the aeronautics layer itself. This is where things get genuinely impressive. Propeller bearings let you build prop planes and helicopters. Burners power hot air balloons. Special floating blocks generate lift for larger airborne structures, meaning you can construct a full-scale flying ship if you have the patience and the materials. Those same propeller components also work on water, so powered boats and proper ships are finally on the table too.

The third system is Offroad, dedicated entirely to land vehicles. This one introduces engines, suspension systems, and what might be the rarest sight in all of Minecraft: round(ish) wheels. The primary use case is all-terrain vehicles, but the trailer also demonstrates combine harvesters built from these parts, which can mechanize crop farming in a way the base game has never supported.

Why this stands out from the mod pile

Here's the thing: Minecraft's modding scene is so active that it takes something genuinely different to cut through. Create Aeronautics manages it because the vehicles aren't cosmetic. They move, they respond to physics via the Sable dependency, and they're built from the ground up using in-game materials rather than spawned in through menus. The construction process is the point.

The base Create mod already had a strong following for its mechanical contraptions and factory-building tools. Create Aeronautics extends that philosophy into transport, which means players who already have complex automated bases can now connect them with actual vehicles rather than relying on Minecraft's default elytra-and-firework combo.

The mod is available to download now on Modrinth. You'll want to have both Create and Sable installed before loading it up, or nothing will work as intended. For players already deep in Create-based modpacks, this is a natural addition. For everyone else, it's a solid reason to finally try the Create ecosystem.
