Epic Games Store Adds Final Free Games for May

The Epic Games Store is wrapping up its May 2025 free game giveaways with two very different titles: Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands and Limbo. Both games are now available to claim for free until June 5, giving PC players one week to add them to their libraries before the next wave of mystery games arrives.

Epic Games Store Free Games

Since May 8, the Epic Games Store has shifted from its usual weekly reveal format to a mystery game model, keeping the identity of each free title under wraps until it officially goes live. So far, seven mystery games have been offered this month, with Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands and Limbo marking the final pair. Two more mystery games are set to be revealed on June 5, continuing the storefront’s summer push for user engagement.

Borderlands Meets Fantasy in Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands

Released in March 2022, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands spins the looter-shooter chaos of Borderlands into a fantasy setting inspired by tabletop RPGs. Framed as an in-universe game run by Tiny Tina, the campaign introduces players to a world filled with swords, spells, and explosive weapons, all presented with the franchise’s trademark humor.

The game holds a “Strong” rating on OpenCritic, averaging a score of 78 with a 76% recommendation rate from critics. While it doesn’t quite reach the acclaim of Borderlands 2, it’s generally viewed as a fun, creative offshoot that stands on its own. This is the first time Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands has been free on the Epic Games Store platform, joining past franchise giveaways like Borderlands 3, The Handsome Collection, and Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep.

Recommended Requirements:

  • Operating System: Windows 10 (latest service pack)
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 or Intel Core i7-4770
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 590 8GB or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
  • Storage: 75 GB available space

Limbo Brings Back Indie Classic Vibes

In contrast to Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, Limbo presents a minimalist, monochromatic experience focused on puzzle platforming. Developed by Danish studio Playdead and released in 2010, the game has been praised for its atmospheric design and subdued storytelling. Limbo has been recognized with multiple awards and is often cited as one of the most influential indie games of its time.

This is not the first time Limbo has been available for free on the Epic Games Store. It was previously featured as a free-to-play title in July 2019. Its return provides another opportunity for users to experience the game’s distinctive style and gameplay.

Recommended Requirements:

  • Operating System: Windows 7 SP1 and above
  • Processor: x64 or x86
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • DirectX: Version 10
  • Storage: 600 MB

What’s Next for the Epic Games Store

Epic’s mystery game promotion isn’t ending with these two. Starting June 5, the store will unveil two new mystery games as part of the continuing weekly rollout. While there's no early info on what those titles might be, recent weeks have seen a mix of genres and sizes, ranging from high-profile releases to cult classics.

The strategy remains consistent: keep players checking back each week and continue building the Epic Games Store library with notable, varied titles. Whether you're into chaotic shooters or atmospheric indies, the store’s free game giveaways remain one of the best ongoing promotions in PC gaming.

Frequently Asked Questions

What platforms offer free games each week?

Free games are primarily available through the Epic Games Store for PC users, while mobile users can access weekly giveaways on Android devices globally and on iPhone and iPad in the EU.

How often are new free games available?

New free games are released every week on PC and mobile platforms. On Epic Games Store, a new game is available each week, and mobile platforms often update their free titles on Thursdays.

Do free games remain free permanently?

Free games from weekly giveaways are usually available for a limited time. Once claimed within the specified period, they remain in the user’s library permanently, while some time-limited events in free-to-play titles may expire after a set period.

Can I play free games offline?

Availability for offline play depends on the specific game. Some free games, such as puzzle or strategy titles, may be played offline, while others, particularly multiplayer or online-only games, require an internet connection.

Are free games the same across all regions?

Most free games are available globally, though some mobile platforms may have regional restrictions. For example, iPhone and iPad users in the EU can access certain free titles that may not be available elsewhere.

Do free games include in-game purchases?

Many free-to-play games offer optional in-game purchases for cosmetics, expansions, or other content. However, claiming and playing the base free game does not require any payment.

Are free games compatible with web3 platforms?

While most current free games are standard PC and mobile titles, some free-to-play games are beginning to integrate web3 elements, such as blockchain-based rewards or community features. Users interested in web3 gaming should check each title for compatibility.
