Square Enix has stayed quiet on post-launch plans for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, but the Epic Games Store is doing some of the talking. A datamine of the game's store listing has surfaced what appears to be nine separate DLC entries alongside a dedicated "Story Expansion Pass," and the FF7 community is paying close attention.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second chapter of the remake trilogy, never received story DLC. Director Naoki Hamaguchi made that call deliberately in 2024, saying the team needed to stay focused on finishing the trilogy rather than building out post-launch content for Rebirth. That decision frustrated fans who wanted more time with the cast, but it also set expectations low for Revelation. The datamine suggests those expectations may need an update.
What the datamine actually found
The listings were pulled using EpicDB, a third-party tool that tracks Epic Games Store content. Alongside the expected Premium Edition and Premium Plus Edition tiers, plus pre-order bonus entries, the database shows nine additional DLC slots and a line item specifically labeled as a "Story Expansion Pass."
That last part is the detail fans are fixating on. Both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth had minor post-launch additions, things like extra summons and cosmetic packs. Only Remake got a genuine story expansion in the form of Episode Intermission, the Yuffie-focused chapter that shipped with the Intergrade upgrade. A "Story Expansion Pass" framing suggests Revelation could go further than either of its predecessors.
Hamaguchi already opened the door
Here's the thing: this datamine doesn't exist in a vacuum. When Revelation was officially revealed at Summer Game Fest this year, Hamaguchi told Famitsu that story expansions are back on the table for the trilogy's final entry, conditional on fan demand. He specifically floated the idea of expansions exploring the broader FF7 universe, naming both Dirge of Cerberus and the animated film Advent Children as potential territory.
That's a significant tease. Dirge of Cerberus stars Vincent Valentine, who has become the most loudly requested expansion subject in the community. Vincent is already a party member in Rebirth, and his backstory connects directly to Dirge's central conflict. An expansion built around him would slot naturally into what Revelation is already setting up.
The Advent Children angle is equally interesting. The film takes place two years after the events of the original FF7 and deals with the fallout from the final battle. If Revelation's base story concludes the remake trilogy's core arc, an Advent Children expansion could serve as a genuine epilogue rather than a detour.
Zack, Crisis Core, and the wider universe
Zack Fair is another piece of this puzzle. His role expanded significantly across Remake and Rebirth, and Square Enix has confirmed his story continues in Revelation. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion, the 2022 remaster of the PSP prequel, introduced a new generation of players to Zack's arc. Characters from that game appearing in Revelation feels like a reasonable expectation at this point, and DLC could give Square Enix room to resolve threads that the main story might not have time for.
The connections between the Remake trilogy and the wider FF7 universe are already explicit. Cissnei, a character from Crisis Core, appeared in Rebirth with direct narrative significance. The groundwork for a more expansive post-launch story is already laid.
What this means for players still in Rebirth
Revelation is currently set for a spring 2027 release on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. That gives Square Enix time to finalize whatever post-launch structure those store listings are hinting at.
