FiiO, a brand best known for DACs, headphone amplifiers, and hi-fi audio gear, has just crossed into gaming territory with the launch of the FG3, its first-ever gaming headset. Priced at $69.99, it arrives with a spec sheet that punches well above its price point.

What makes the FG3 different from other budget headsets
Here's the thing: most headsets at this price use a single dynamic driver and call it a day. The FG3 takes a different approach with a coaxial driver arrangement, pairing a 50mm and a 16mm dynamic driver that radiate sound from the same point. The practical benefit is a more consistent sound image and a wider soundstage, which is exactly what you want when you need to pinpoint footsteps or directional audio cues in competitive games.
That coaxial setup is typically found in higher-end audiophile headphones, not $70 gaming gear. FiiO is betting that its audio engineering background translates directly into a better gaming experience, and the specs suggest that bet has some merit.
The FG3 covers a 10 Hz to 40 kHz frequency response, which is broader than most gaming headsets bother with. Power comes from a dual-core DSP chip supporting 192kHz/24bit sampling rates, which FiiO says helps reduce latency and speeds up the response time for in-game audio effects. The chip is also designed to handle more complex audio processing tasks without bogging down.
The full feature set at $69.99
Beyond the drivers, the FG3 comes with:
- Custom-tuned 7.1 virtual surround sound
- Detachable noise-canceling microphone with real-time audio monitoring (side tone, so you can hear yourself while talking)
- Plug-and-play compatibility across PC (Windows 7 through 11), PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and smartphones
- No proprietary software required, FiiO uses a web-based FiiO Control WEB platform instead
- Up to 10 custom EQ presets saved directly on the headset
The web-based EQ approach is worth calling out. Bloatware from peripheral manufacturers has been a genuine pain point for PC gamers for years, and skipping the desktop app entirely is a smart move for a first product.
FiiO's move into gaming makes sense
FiiO has spent years building a reputation in audiophile circles with products like the BTR series and FH earphones. The brand knows drivers. What most players miss when a company like this enters gaming is that the underlying audio engineering is often more sophisticated than what dedicated gaming brands produce at the same price.
The key here is whether that audiophile DNA actually survives the translation to a gaming-specific product. The coaxial driver design and the 192kHz/24bit DSP chip suggest FiiO is not just slapping a mic on a pair of headphones and calling it a gaming headset. The 7.1 surround tuning and real-time monitoring mic are genuine gaming-first additions.
Stock availability is still catching up to the announcement. The official FiiO store's buy button has not been fully functional at launch, so you may need to check third-party retailers as distribution rolls out over the coming days.
