Epic Games dropped this one with a straight face: "DC Sirens bring the heat to Fortnite." And honestly? They delivered. Fortnite's Hot Bat Summer event went live today, July 16, bringing four new DC-themed swimsuit outfits, a brand-new Bat Cave point of interest, the Batman Beach Buggy vehicle, and a quest chain that rewards Batman Sprites with real in-match utility.
The event leans hard into DC Comics' annual swimsuit cover tradition, and the results are exactly as eye-catching as the pre-launch buzz suggested. A brief moment of fan panic earlier this week, when screenshots seemed to show the skins had been toned down, turned out to be nothing. The final versions are exactly what Epic originally revealed.
The four outfits and what they cost
Beach Bod Batman, Coastal Catwoman, High Tide Harley, and Chlorophyll Ivy are the four new additions, each priced at 1,500 V-Bucks individually and dropping into the Fortnite Item Shop tonight at 8 p.m. EDT. Every skin comes with its own Lego variant, a Pickaxe, and Back Bling, so the cosmetic depth here is solid.
For players who want to go all-in, Epic put together two bundles worth knowing about:
- Gotham City Summer Bundle (3,000 V-Bucks): Beach Bod Batman, Coastal Catwoman, Ace the Bat-Hound Sidekick, Batman Floatie Back Bling, Riptide Claws Pickaxe, Batman Paddle Pickaxe, Selina's Treasure Tote Back Bling, Beach Bats Kicks, and the Surf's Up emote
- High Tide Harley and Sunflower Ivy Bundle (2,300 V-Bucks): High Tide Harley, Harley Floatie Back Bling, Carnation of Carnage Pickaxe, Harley's Boogie Bat Pickaxe, Summer Snapper Back Bling, and the Lily Lounger emote
The Gotham City Summer Bundle is the better value if you want Batman and Catwoman. The Harley and Ivy bundle is more niche but covers both characters with dedicated accessories.
Quest rewards and the Batman Sprite
Here's the thing with Hot Bat Summer: the skins get the headlines, but the quest rewards are genuinely worth your time. Completing event quests earns you the Batman Sprite, which does two things in Battle Royale matches. First, it lets you deploy a Bat Cape mid-air. Second, it increases your odds of finding rare Sprites inside chests.
For players already invested in the Sprite system this season, that second bonus stacks meaningfully. Other quest rewards include the G'nort's Summer Tote Back Bling, the Caped Cooler-sader Pickaxe, and the Zap-brella Glider. G'nort, for the uninitiated, is G'nort Esplanade G'neesmacher, the anthropomorphic dog member of the Green Lantern Corps and one of DC's most reliable comic relief characters. His inclusion here is a nice deep cut.
What the Bat Cave POI adds to the map
Beyond cosmetics, Hot Bat Summer makes a physical mark on the Fortnite map with a new Bat Cave POI. The Batman Beach Buggy vehicle also joins the loot pool alongside the Batman Grapnel Gun, which should be familiar to anyone who played during previous Batman crossovers. The Grapnel Gun's mobility makes it one of the more useful event-specific items Epic has added recently.
Shiny Hours on July 18
The event gets a mid-weekend boost on Saturday, July 18, with two Shiny Hours windows:
- 2 p.m. EDT to 4 p.m. EDT
- 9 p.m. EDT to 11 p.m. EDT
During those windows, every player starts with a Batman Grapnel Gun and a Self-Revive Device. Batman Sprite and Beach Buggy spawn rates go up, and the rarer Sprite variants, specifically Gold, Gummy, Galaxy, and Holofoil, appear more frequently. If you're hunting for rare Sprites this season, Saturday evening is your window.
The bigger picture for Fortnite's DC partnership
What most players miss in events like this is how much Epic has shifted its cosmetic philosophy over the past year or two. Fortnite used to be known for keeping its characters covered up, sometimes awkwardly so. Hot Bat Summer is the latest in a clear trend toward more expressive, sometimes provocative designs, and the DC Sirens fit that direction perfectly. The partnership with DC keeps expanding in scope, and this event adds genuine gameplay hooks, not just shop items, through the Sprite system and new POI.
