Epic Games has a habit of timing its biggest crossover events to match real-world cultural moments, and the Odyssey Cup is no different. Christopher Nolan's film adaptation of Homer's The Odyssey hits theatres on July 17, and Fortnite is celebrating with a limited-time competitive cup that puts Matt Damon's Odysseus outfit up for grabs at no cost, provided you can earn it.
The cup is live right now. Here's the lowdown on exactly what's on the table and what it takes to claim it.
What the Odyssey Cup actually is
The Odyssey Cup runs across July 15 and 16, 2026, and follows the same structure Epic has used for previous free-skin competitive events. You queue up, earn points through placement and eliminations, and if you finish high enough in your region's standings, the rewards drop into your account after the event closes.
The cup runs in both Battle Royale and Zero Build modes. There's also a dedicated Mobile variant in Reload mode, which means iPhone and iPad players who have returned to Fortnite through the iOS App Store can participate as well. That's a wider net than some previous cups, which is worth noting if you play primarily on mobile.
No external registration is needed. Open Fortnite, head to the Compete tab in the lobby, and select the Odyssey Cup from the active tournament list. The one hard requirement is that two-factor authentication must be enabled on your Epic Games account before you can join any competitive event.
Every reward and what it costs you in points
Here's the full breakdown of what's up for grabs and how to unlock each item:
The loading screen and spray are within reach for most players willing to put in a few solid matches. The outfit, pickaxe, and back bling are the real prizes, and those require finishing in your region's top placement threshold.
What most players miss about the point thresholds
The key here is understanding that 40 points for the King's Helm spray is genuinely achievable in a single session if you're playing consistently. A top-10 finish in a standard match nets around 20-25 points depending on eliminations, so two decent games can cover it.
The outfit is a different story. Finishing in the top 700 in NA Central or top 1,000 in Europe sounds like a lot of room, but these cups draw competitive queues. If you're aiming for the Odysseus outfit, you'll want to prioritize survival over aggression, especially in the early and mid-game.
Epic has run this format before, and players who have chased skins through cups like the Supergirl Cup or the Samurai Jack skin event will recognize the rhythm. Play smart, stay alive, and treat eliminations as a bonus rather than the goal.
If you miss the cup window
Not everyone will hit the placement cutoffs, and that's fine. The Odysseus outfit is expected to arrive in the Fortnite Item Shop on July 17 at 8 PM ET, timed directly to the theatrical release of Nolan's film. The Item Shop version will cost V-Bucks, but it means the skin won't be permanently out of reach if the cup doesn't go your way.
The cup cosmetics, once earned competitively, are yours to keep regardless of whether the skin later appears in the shop.
