Newzoo Estimates Gaming Market Will Reach $198 Billion by 2027

Newzoo, a recognized provider of market intelligence for the gaming industry, has updated its data collection methodology in the first quarter of 2025. By increasing the number of sources, the revised figures now offer a more accurate reflection of the market. The total gaming market volume for 2024 has been adjusted to $177.9 billion, a decrease from the previously reported $184.3 billion.

This revision follows reassessments in key segments, revealing notable changes in revenue distribution. The PC gaming segment saw a 10% decrease, with revenue dropping from $41.5 billion to $37.3 billion. The console market experienced a more significant decline of 15%, adjusting from $50.3 billion to $42.8 billion. In contrast, the mobile gaming sector grew by 6%, increasing from $92.5 billion to $97.6 billion.

Despite the overall market volume increasing by 0.6% compared to 2023, inflationary pressures resulted in a real revenue decline. The mobile gaming sector experienced the most substantial growth, driven by the recovery of Western markets, leading to a 2.8% increase. The console segment declined by 3.9%, while the PC market remained relatively stable, growing by just 0.1%.

Regional Market Performance

By the end of 2024, China and the United States accounted for more than half of the total gaming market volume, contributing $47 billion and $46.1 billion, respectively. The Asia-Pacific region remained a dominant force, generating 47% of global gaming revenue. These figures highlight the continued importance of these regions in shaping industry trends, with companies strategically focusing on market-specific developments to drive engagement and revenue.

Forecast for the Gaming Market Through 2027

Looking ahead, Newzoo estimates that the gaming market will grow at an annual rate of 3.7%, reaching $198 billion by 2027. This projection is lower than previous estimates, which anticipated the market reaching $206.8 billion. The adjusted forecast suggests a more measured growth trajectory, reflecting both economic uncertainties and evolving consumer behaviors.

The PC gaming segment is expected to grow organically, with no major disruptions anticipated. However, the mobile gaming sector could see increased investment due to the adoption of direct-to-consumer (D2C) payment methods. By reducing intermediary fees, companies may allocate more resources toward user acquisition and engagement strategies. In the console market, the release of Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to be a key growth driver. The game’s launch is projected to accelerate the transition to next-generation consoles, potentially boosting sales and expanding the player base.

Final Thoughts

Newzoo’s updated figures and forecasts provide a clearer understanding of the gaming industry’s trajectory. While the market continues to grow, the adjustments in revenue expectations indicate a more moderate expansion than previously anticipated. The mobile sector remains a key area of growth, while the console and PC markets face more gradual developments. As industry dynamics evolve, these insights offer valuable guidance for businesses and stakeholders looking to navigate the gaming market through 2027.
