"On behalf of everyone at Santa Monica Studio, thank you so much for all the interest and support shown for the game since our reveal in June," the studio said in its announcement. "We'll be back before you know it with more news for God of War Laufey."

With that, Santa Monica Studio and Sony have pulled back the curtain on the two PS5 editions for God of War Laufey, and pre-orders go live tomorrow, September 29, 2026. The game itself is still locked in for a February 16, 2027 launch, PS5 exclusive.

For players who followed God of War Ragnarök through its full run, this reveal will feel familiar in structure. Two purchasable editions, a set of pre-order bonuses that carry across both, and cosmetic-heavy Deluxe extras. Here's how it breaks down.

What each edition actually includes

The Standard Edition comes with the base game and the pre-order bonus items shared across both versions:

  • Last Wish Armor Set for Faye
  • Phranque Golden Leaves Appearance (cosmetic item)
  • In-game resource pack

The Digital Deluxe Edition adds a more substantial bundle on top of those pre-order bonuses:

  • Dark Alchemy Armor Set
  • Dark Alchemy Blade
  • Dark Alchemy Bow Scales
  • Dark Alchemy Catalyst
  • In-game resource pack
  • Digital Mini Artbook
  • Official God of War Laufey Digital Soundtrack

The key here is that "Dark Alchemy" set covers all three of Faye's primary equipment slots: her armor, her blade, and her bow. That's a more cohesive Deluxe offer than some recent PS5 releases, which have padded editions with duplicate resource packs and single cosmetics.

Faye's combat toolkit, explained

Alongside the edition details, Santa Monica Studio shared more about how Faye actually plays. She carries the Serpent Bow as her primary ranged weapon, and the trigger sensitivity matters: a light press triggers an auto-aim assist shot, while a harder press drops into full manual aim mode. That dual-input design suggests the game is built to accommodate both accessibility-focused play and players who want precise control.

Beyond the bow, Faye has a sword and can equip items called Catalysts, which appear to function as a distinct equipment category separate from standard armor and weapons. The Dark Alchemy Catalyst included in the Deluxe Edition hints that Catalysts will have meaningful stat or ability implications, not just cosmetic ones.

What most players miss in these early reveals is how the equipment philosophy signals the game's progression design. In Ragnarök, armor sets were central to build identity by mid-game. The fact that Laufey already has three distinct equipment categories at launch, plus a separate Catalyst slot, points to a system at least as deep.

How this compares to Ragnarök's launch setup

Ragnarök launched with a Standard Edition and a Digital Deluxe Edition as well, with the Deluxe offering a digital artbook, soundtrack, and cosmetic armor. Laufey's structure mirrors that almost exactly. One notable difference: there is no physical Collector's Edition announced at this stage, which will disappoint fans who wanted something tangible on the shelf.

The pre-order bonus armor sets, Last Wish and Dark Alchemy, are both tied to Faye's visual identity rather than being generic stat boosts with a skin slapped on. Whether those sets remain relevant past the early hours depends on how Santa Monica scales gear progression, but the Deluxe items covering bow, blade, and armor simultaneously is a better value proposition than a single-slot cosmetic.

Pricing is the one piece still missing. Pre-orders open tomorrow without a confirmed number attached, which is worth noting before you commit. For a full breakdown of Faye's abilities and the game's systems as more details emerge, the God of War Ragnarök guides hub is the best place to track evolving coverage as Santa Monica continues to share new information ahead of February.

The studio confirmed more news is coming before launch. Given the reveal cadence since June, expect a deeper gameplay breakdown before the end of the year. For all the latest as it drops, keep an eye on our guides for ongoing coverage.
