Season 10.5 of Marvel Rivals is breaking the pattern players have come to expect, and not in a way that will thrill everyone. NetEase has confirmed that the second half of Season 10 will not introduce a new hero or a new map. No character reveal, no teaser countdown, no roster shakeup.
Just two new game modes.
How the season split used to work
Since launch, Marvel Rivals has run on a predictable two-hero-per-season rhythm. Season starts, first hero drops at launch, second hero arrives at the midpoint. Players could set their watch to it. That structure gave the game a steady drip of fresh content and kept the meta moving every few weeks.
Season 10, titled Butcher's Blasphemy, was supposed to follow the same formula. The first half delivers Gorr the God Butcher, a Duelist who wields the All-Black, the Necrosword, alongside a new Domination map called God Quarry arriving September 24. That part is still on track.
The second half is where things change.
What Season 10.5 actually brings instead
NetEase revealed in their latest developer diary that Season 10.5 will skip the usual mid-season hero entirely. The team is redirecting that development bandwidth toward Path to Doomsday, the studio's ongoing multi-season event arc. Specifically, phases 3 and 4 of that event are the focus, and they come with two new game modes drawing directly from Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.
The studio hasn't detailed exactly what those modes look like mechanically yet, but the thematic framing is clear. These aren't minor additions. NetEase is treating them as a significant enough content push to justify the missing hero slot.
That reassurance matters. The concern with any deviation from an established content cadence is whether it signals a slowdown or a permanent change in direction. NetEase is drawing a clear line here: this is a one-time trade-off to deliver a bigger event, not a cost-cutting measure dressed up as a feature.
The trade-off players are weighing
Here's the thing: two new game modes is genuinely not nothing. If the Infinity War and Endgame inspirations translate into something with actual mechanical depth, Season 10.5 could end up being more interesting to play than a season that just added another hero to a roster already 40+ characters deep.
What most players miss in these situations is that hero additions and game mode additions hit differently. A new hero changes who you play. A new mode changes how you play. Depending on where you are with the current roster, the latter might actually matter more right now.
The risk, of course, is that the modes land flat. If they feel like limited-time filler rather than something with staying power, the missing hero will feel like a much bigger absence. NetEase is betting that the Path to Doomsday payoff justifies the swap.
What to expect before Season 10.5 arrives
Season 10 itself kicks off September 11, 2026, with Gorr and the God Quarry map following on September 24. If you want the full breakdown of confirmed start times, rank reset details, and what to finish before the season flips, the Marvel Rivals Season 10 release date guide has everything in one place.
Season 11 is when the two-hero cadence returns, so if the single-hero season feels thin to you, that's the next milestone worth watching. For now, the Path to Doomsday modes are the story, and how well they land will define whether Season 10.5 is remembered as a smart pivot or a missed opportunity. Keep an eye on the Marvel Rivals guides hub for updates as more details on those modes surface.
