Mewtwo Evolution Now in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Beginning December 2, players of Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition gain access to a new gameplay update that introduces Mewtwo, along with the Mewtwonite X and Mewtwonite Y Mega Stones. The content arrives through the Mystery Gift system and adds an extra side mission that becomes available once the main story has been completed. This mission offers a chance to battle and recruit the Legendary Pokémon Mewtwo, while also integrating Mega Evolution for players who secure the new stones.

Mystery Gift Distribution and Mega Stone Access

The update begins with the distribution of Mewtwonite X and Mewtwonite Y, which are obtained by selecting the Get via Internet option within the Mystery Gift menu. After claiming the stones, players can confirm their availability in the satchel’s Mega Stones pocket. These items allow Mewtwo to perform Mega Evolution, a mechanic familiar to fans of previous entries in the series. When holding Mewtwonite X, Mewtwo is able to transform into Mega Mewtwo X, while Mewtwonite Y enables Mega Mewtwo Y.

Requirements Before Starting the Mewtwo Mission

The extra mission tied to Mewtwo remains locked until the main story of either version of Pokémon Legends: Z-A has been completed. Only after finishing the core narrative and acquiring the two Mega Stones can players engage with the new mission. The encounter features a dedicated battle that must be overcome before Mewtwo can be added to the player’s team.

Progressing Through Lysandre Café and Lysandre Labs

Once the Mega Stones are collected, the next step is to visit Lysandre Café. The game indicates that systems within Lysandre Labs respond to the stones’ presence, encouraging players to explore the facility further. This exploration leads directly into the mission’s events and ultimately to the confrontation with Mewtwo. The structure mirrors traditional post-game legendary encounters while fitting within the expanded world design of the Z-A series.

Game Versions and Availability

The Mewtwo mission and Mega Evolution features are accessible across multiple versions of the game. Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is available at $69.99, while the Upgrade Pack is sold at $9.99. The original Pokémon Legends: Z-A release remains available at $59.99. All versions support the Mystery Gift distribution and ensure full access to the new post-game content. The update also complements ongoing interest in connected gameplay ecosystems, including optional integrations that may appeal to players familiar with web3-based gaming enhancements.
