Yacht Club Games had a big EVO weekend. A teaser shown during the event confirmed that Mina, the gothic mouse protagonist from Mina the Hollower, will cross over into platform fighter Rivals of Aether 2 as a guest character sometime in 2027.
The teaser itself is more of a save-the-date than an actual reveal. No gameplay, no moveset details, no release window tighter than "sometime next year." What it does confirm is that Aether Studios and Yacht Club are working together, and Mina is officially on the roster announcement calendar.

Mina's gothic pixel design
A surprise crossover with some history behind it
Here's the thing: this isn't the first time Rivals of Aether has pulled in a character from Yacht Club's world. Shovel Knight appeared in the original Rivals of Aether, so there's already a working relationship between the two studios. Rivals of Aether 2, though, had been running without any guest characters at all until now. Mina will be the first.
That makes this a bigger deal than the brief teaser suggests. Aether Studios has been selective with its roster, leaning hard into original anthropomorphic animal characters. Bringing in an outside IP, especially one as fresh as Mina, signals that guest collaborations are officially part of the sequel's long-term plan.
What EVO weekend actually revealed
Aether Studios didn't stop at the Mina announcement. The studio used EVO to drop two other pieces of news for Rivals of Aether 2: expanded modding tools for building custom fighters, and a brand new original character named Gouie, a goopy platypus-shaped creature who swallows opponents and tears off chunks of his own slimy body to throw across the stage. Gouie releases August 4, so players won't have to wait long for that one.
Mina's situation is different. She's confirmed, she's coming, but the specific date sits somewhere in 2027. No season pass details, no pricing, nothing beyond the crossover existing.

Rivals of Aether 2 roster
Why this matters for Mina the Hollower fans
The timing makes sense when you look at where Yacht Club is right now. The studio was publicly open about the pressure riding on Mina the Hollower before launch, describing the situation as make-or-break. The game sold 300,000 copies in its first 3 days, which by any measure is a success. Yacht Club is no longer in survival mode.
With that pressure off, crossovers and collaborations are exactly the kind of thing a healthy studio starts saying yes to. Getting Mina into a well-regarded platform fighter exposes the character to an entirely different audience, particularly players who might have missed the game's May launch.
What most players miss is that crossover guest slots in platform fighters do a lot of work as living advertisements. Shovel Knight's appearance in the original Rivals of Aether kept that character in front of fighting game players for years. Mina getting the same treatment in Rivals of Aether 2 means her design and personality will reach people who've never touched a top-down action game.
The Rivals of Aether 2 context
Rivals of Aether 2 occupies a specific space in the platform fighter genre. It sits alongside Smash Bros. as a genre touchstone on PC, and it's built a following around tight mechanics and an original cast of anthropomorphic fighters. The modding tools announcement from EVO suggests Aether Studios is thinking about longevity, not just the next character drop.
Adding a guest character with the visual distinctiveness of Mina, all gothic aesthetic and retro pixel sensibility, into that roster is an interesting choice. She'll look different from basically everyone else on the screen, which is either a selling point or an aesthetic clash depending on your taste.
What to expect going forward
The actual character reveal, with moveset details and a firm release date, is still coming. The EVO teaser was designed to generate attention, not information. Aether Studios will presumably do a proper showcase closer to launch, which could land anywhere in 2027.
For now, Rivals of Aether 2 players have Gouie to look forward to on August 4. Mina the Hollower fans have a crossover confirmed and a wait ahead of them.
