Konami and Koei Tecmo have completed their crossover loop. Silent Hill f now has a free costume inspired by Mio Amakura, the protagonist of Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake, arriving as part of the newly released patch 1.20.
The collaboration works both ways. Back in March, Konami sent Silent Hill f cosmetic DLC over to Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake. Now Koei Tecmo has returned the favour, dropping the "Crimson Butterfly" outfit into Silent Hill f for all players who update to 1.20. No additional purchase required.
How the crossover costume works
Accessing the new outfit is straightforward. Players can select it when starting a New Game from the main menu, or swap into it mid-playthrough by choosing Change Costume while resting at a Hokora. The costume carries the visual identity of Mio Amakura directly into Ebisugaoka's fog-drenched streets, which is a genuinely interesting aesthetic collision given how differently the two games handle horror.
Here's the thing: both games share a Japanese horror DNA but express it through completely different mechanics. Silent Hill f puts protagonist Shimizu Hinako through a psychological survival horror gauntlet set in 1960s Japan, while Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake leans into ghost-hunting tension with its Camera Obscura mechanics. Seeing Mio's look transported into Hinako's world is the kind of fan service that actually makes sense contextually.
The Fatal Frame II connection
Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake is a full remake of the 2003 PlayStation 2 and Xbox original. The game follows twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura, who wander into Minakami Village, a location cursed by a failed ritual that traps anyone who enters. The remake has been available on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series.
The crossover timing aligns with the Steam Summer Sale, where both games are currently available together in a discounted bundle. If you've been sitting on one and not the other, that's a reasonable entry point for picking up both.
What patch 1.20 means for the game
Silent Hill f launched as the first mainline Silent Hill entry set in Japan, and it has been building out its post-launch content steadily. The 1.20 update is primarily a cosmetic addition, but the collaboration itself signals that Konami is treating the game as an active platform rather than a one-and-done release.
For players still working through the game, the Silent Hill f collectibles guide covers every collectible location if you're pushing for full completion alongside your new outfit. And if the monsters are giving you trouble, the Silent Hill f monster survival guide breaks down how to handle each creature you'll encounter across Ebisugaoka.
Patch 1.20 is available now across all platforms. The Crimson Butterfly costume unlocks automatically once you've updated.
