Digital Extremes has kicked off Nightwave Mix: Amir's Shockwave in Warframe, the latest limited-time reward event that doubles as a proper expansion of the 1999 storyline. There's new music, a permanent mini-adventure with The Hex, and a fresh batch of free cosmetics to chase.
What's in the Nightwave reward track
The event follows the familiar Nightwave structure: complete daily objectives, permanent weekly challenges, and a set of temporary weekly tasks to climb the reward track. Amir takes over the airwaves this time around, voiced by Kevin Afghani, who brings new lines to the broadcast.
The rewards include both new and returning items. Highlights from this season's track are the Kaneshell Atomicycle Regalis Operator/Drifter outfit and the Globakk Syndana backpiece. There's also the Submeower decoration item, which is decidedly not a subwoofer, despite what the name might suggest.
Fables and Frontiers: the permanent Hex text adventure
Here's the thing that makes this update more than just a cosmetic grind: Fables & Frontiers: Running Late is a new tabletop RPG-inspired text adventure starring The Hex, and it sticks around permanently after Nightwave Mix: Amir's Shockwave ends.
The key here is that access isn't automatic. To unlock it, players need to have completed The Hex Quest and The Hex Finale, hit Rank 5 with The Hex Syndicate, and reached KIM Rank 5 with Amir specifically. It's a meaningful gating system that rewards players who have already invested in the 1999 storyline rather than just dropping the content in front of everyone.
Höllvania Mall gets Amir's game room
The social hub side of the update is getting some attention too. The Dominion of Höllvandeim, Amir's personal game room, has been added to the Höllvania Mall as a permanent expansion. Social hubs in live-service games often feel like afterthoughts, but Digital Extremes has been steadily building Höllvania into something players actually want to spend time in.
New On-lyne music hits streaming platforms
The 1999 setting has always leaned hard into its music identity, and this update continues that. On-lyne, the in-universe band, has a new track called "Running Late" that ties directly into the Fables & Frontiers adventure. Two more tracks have also been added alongside it. All three are now live on major streaming platforms, so you can queue them up outside of the game.
What most players miss with these Nightwave music drops is that they tend to build out the 1999 world's lore in ways the gameplay alone doesn't cover. "Running Late" is worth a listen even if you're not deep into the Nightwave grind.
Why this update lands differently
Nighwave events usually come and go without leaving much of a mark. This one is different because Fables & Frontiers: Running Late stays in the game permanently. That means players who don't finish the rank requirements before Nightwave closes still have a path to the content later, as long as they put in the work on The Hex storyline.
