Warframe: Update 44: Iceblade of Narin
Advertisement

Warframe's newest cold-based Warframe, Narin, hits harder than Frost ever did at launch and does it without needing a wall of Augment mods to function. She combines serious ability damage through her ult, passive Overguard generation, and a Cold Vulnerability debuff that stacks with almost everything in your arsenal. The catch is that her rotation has some friction baked in, and her ultimate ability punishes sloppy play more than most. Get the fundamentals right, though, and she tears through Steel Path content with ease.

What stats does Narin actually need?

Two stats matter most on Narin: Ability Strength and Ability Range. Ability Duration and Efficiency are secondary, but Duration has one specific job that makes it non-negotiable if you plan to use Nurinarim (her fourth ability). Everything else is flexible.

Arcane Ice Storm is the single most impactful piece of gear you can slot on Narin. When fully stacked, it provides a substantial Ability Strength boost that reduces pressure on your mod slots considerably. Without it, you'll find yourself juggling Strength mods in ways that hurt Range or Duration.

Range matters because Neote (her first ability) and Naraemagi (her second) both depend on hitting as many enemies as possible to fill the Ice meter quickly. Thin Range means slower Ice buildup, which means slower access to Nurinarim.

tip
Aim for at least 140-150% Ability Duration before committing to Nurinarim-focused play. At 75% Duration, you get roughly 13-14 seconds of Nurinarim before the Ice meter fully depletes, which is rarely enough time to land clean hits.

How do Narin's abilities work together?

Narin's kit revolves around the Ice meter, a resource tracker in the bottom-right corner of the screen. Every ability that connects with enemies generates Ice, and a full meter is required to activate Nurinarim. Here's what each ability contributes:

  • Neote lunges forward with Narin's ice rapier, applying Cold Damage and Cold and Puncture status to enemies directly ahead. Good Ability Range turns this into a reliable AoE Ice generator.
  • Naraemagi absorbs Cold status effects from nearby enemies to restore Shields, then converts excess into Overguard if Shields are already full. Both the Overguard cap and generation rate scale with Ability Strength. Range determines how wide the absorption zone is.
  • Hakchum is a two-tap leap: tap to jump, tap again to land and trigger a large-radius Cold Damage Vulnerability and Cold status pulse. The Cold Vulnerability percentage scales with Ability Strength, making this the backbone of both the nuke and weapon platform builds. You also get 3 seconds of airtime and invulnerability between taps.
  • Nurinarim is the payoff. Requires a full Ice meter to activate. While channeled, you can only cast Hakchum and fire your primary at enemies when an icy reticle appears above their heads. Each iceblade fired costs Energy and depletes Ice. Misfiring (shooting without a reticle) wastes Ice for nothing. The Ice drain rate during Nurinarim is tied to Ability Duration, which is exactly why Duration matters.

Narin also generates Sangodae pickups (Cold elemental ammo packs) for every 100 cumulative Cold stacks she creates. These function similarly to other elemental ammo pickups and feed directly into a weapon platform build.

What is the best rotation for Narin?

The standard rotation for ability-focused Narin play is straightforward in theory:

  1. Find a dense enemy group.
  2. Cast Hakchum to cover as many enemies as possible with Cold Vulnerability.
  3. Follow with Naraemagi to absorb Cold statuses and build Ice.
  4. Alternate between Hakchum and Naraemagi until the Ice meter is full (roughly 2 casts of each against 25+ enemies).
  5. Activate Nurinarim and fire only at marked targets.

The friction comes from Nurinarim itself. The reticles that mark valid targets can get buried under particle effects in squad play, and two of Narin's abilities are locked out while the ult is active. You also cannot regenerate Ice during Nurinarim, so every misfire shortens your window.

warning
Nurinarim punishes misclicks hard. Hitting primary fire without an active reticle consumes Ice and deals zero damage. In dense, chaotic missions, this happens more than you'd expect.

Best Narin builds in Warframe

0-Forma build (beginner-friendly)

If you've just slotted a Reactor and want to test Narin before investing Forma, this setup works without any polarity changes:

Flow gives you lower Duration, so Nurinarim windows will be tight. Continuity keeps Duration healthier but costs you Energy pool. Pick based on how comfortable you are with the rotation.

Best overall build with Brightbonnet (2-3 Forma)

This is the build to run for general Warframe content. Brightbonnet replaces Neote via Helminth and pairs with Arcane Sculptor to solve energy economy while pushing Ability Strength higher. Two Brightbonnets placed before engaging give you roughly 200 Energy to work with before you start the Hakchum and Naraemagi alternation cycle.

The rotation with this build: drop two Brightbonnets, wait for Energy to accumulate, then alternate Hakchum and Naraemagi to fill the Ice meter. Make sure Arcane Sculptor is buffed before activating Nurinarim.

tip
Arcane Ice Storm is non-negotiable on Narin. Stack it before any major engagement and the Ability Strength gains make a visible difference in how quickly Nurinarim deletes targets.

Weapon platform build with Roar (2 Forma)

Narin's Sangodae ammo packs plus the Cold Vulnerability from Hakchum create a strong case for a weapons platform approach. The idea: replace Nurinarim with Roar via Helminth, then use Hakchum's Cold Vulnerability (which can exceed 300% with high Strength) and Narin's ammo packs to amplify weapon damage to extreme levels.

At around 90% Roar (a 1.9x faction multiplier) without Archon Shards, and with Cold Vulnerability layered on top, weapons with Cold progenitor bonuses like Tenet Glaxion or other Kuva, Tenet, or Coda weapons become noticeably stronger. The Cold ammo packs Narin generates double-dip into both Roar and Cold Vulnerability.

For maximum output, run Primary Frostbite on your primary weapon. Neote and Hakchum make maintaining full stacks trivial.

This build works best in group play. The early-mission Energy drought is real when running solo without yellow Archon Shards for Energy conversion.

Non-Helminth balanced build (high Strength, easy sustain)

For players who prefer not to use Helminth, this setup prioritizes Ability Strength and comfortable sustain:

For Archon Shards, a yellow shard for Cast Speed noticeably smooths out the rotation. A purple shard for Health-to-Energy Orb conversion helps with Energy in longer missions. Fill remaining slots with red Tau shards for a combined +45% Ability Strength.

If running Arcane Power Ramp, the rotation is: Neote > Naraemagi > Neote > Naraemagi to fully stack the Arcane, then cast Hakchum before activating Nurinarim to snapshot the extra Strength.

Note that Energy Nexus stops functioning during Nurinarim form, so factor that into how you manage Energy going into the ult.

Helminth options worth considering

Several Helminth abilities pair well with Narin depending on your preferred playstyle:

  • Brightbonnet replaces Neote and pairs with Arcane Sculptor for a significant Strength boost and Energy economy solution. The go-to for ability-focused play.
  • Roar replaces Nurinarim for a weapon platform setup. Requires investment in Cold damage on weapons to fully pay off.
  • Nourish replaces Neote for the most comfortable general playstyle, and passively provides Viral to companions and allies.
  • Thermal Sunder replaces Neote for extra clear and crowd control without relying solely on Nurinarim for damage.
  • Breach Surge replaces Neote for chained damage proc interactions.
  • Dispensary plus Arcane Sculptor works as an alternative to Brightbonnet. Replace Energy Nexus with Equilibrium and Augur Secrets with Energy Conversion for roughly +50% free Ability Strength.
  • Coil Horizon, Ensnare, or Larva if you want enemy grouping for coordinated squad play.
tip
Narin's native armor strip on Nurinarim means you don't need to bring a dedicated strip ability. This frees up Helminth slots for utility or damage amplification instead.

Companion and weapon recommendations

Tenet Glaxion is the strongest weapon choice for Narin, particularly on the weapon platform build, but any crit-based Kuva, Tenet, or Coda weapon with a Cold progenitor bonus benefits substantially from her kit. Avoid Acuity-type weapons since they don't interact well with the Cold ammo pack mechanic.

For companions:

  • Dethcube generates additional Energy Orbs, which helps with the early-mission Energy problem.
  • Panzer Vulpaphyla provides a Viral primer passively.
  • A Hound with Synergized Prospectus and Contagion Bond handles Viral priming as a catch-all option. Pairing a Hound with Archon Stretch gives you passive Energy generation whenever the companion procs status effects.

How do you farm Narin's components?

Narin's main blueprint and all three component blueprints (Neuroptics, Chassis, Systems) are available from Cephalon Melica at the Chrysalith or Yuvan Peak after completing Angels of the Zariman. Each blueprint costs Entropic Kuva obtained from defeated Eximus enemies on the Zariman. For a full breakdown of exactly how much Entropic Kuva you need and the fastest routes to farm it, check out the Warframe Entropic Kuva farming guide.

Components also drop from specific Zariman mission types as RNG rewards if you prefer grinding over purchasing:

The Cephalon Melica route with Entropic Kuva is the more reliable path since it's a guaranteed 100% drop rate per purchase. For a complete look at acquiring Narin herself, see the Warframe Narin farming guide.

Once you have Narin built and modded, the next natural step is optimizing the rest of your kit. The Warframe modding guide covers how to push builds further into endgame Steel Path and beyond, and the broader Warframe guides collection has everything else you need to keep progressing.
