The full Warframe tier list
Warframe now has 66 unique frames with the arrival of Narin, and picking the right one for your playstyle matters more than ever. Digital Extremes' stated goal is to make every frame viable somewhere, but the gap between a frame that clears Steel Path in seconds and one that needs four Helminth abilities and a miracle Augment to keep up is real. This guide breaks down every frame by tier and role, from the loot-generating specialists that define the endgame grind to the frames that need a rework before they see serious play.
What makes a frame worth using?
Warframe's endgame loop is built around grinding, so the frames that accelerate that loop sit at the top. Beyond farming, the best frames either clear rooms fast enough to keep missions moving, provide utility that the whole squad benefits from, or simply refuse to die in content that punishes mistakes. Frames that do one of those things exceptionally well land in S-tier. Frames that do several of them adequately land in A-tier. Everything below that either needs too much investment to compete or has been outpaced by newer releases.
Prime variants share the same abilities as their base versions but come with better base stats and more favorable polarities. Where a Prime exists and you plan to main that frame, always farm or trade for it.

S-tier frames at a glance
Loot tier: the frames that define the grind
These three sit above every other tier because Warframe's progression is fundamentally a loot game. Frames that multiply drops are in a category of their own.
- Nekros (and Nekros Prime): Desecrate has a lower per-enemy resource boost chance than the other two loot frames, but its massive range and unlimited enemy count make it the most plug-and-play option. Shield of Shadows gives him real durability, and he can fully armor-strip enemies on top of the loot generation. Best choice for groups where you want reliable, low-effort drop boosting.
- Khora (and Khora Prime): The go-to for endless missions. After the Pseudo-Exalted rework in Update 38.5, Whipclaw lost its Riven and Incarnon Talent scaling, cutting the previous DPS ceiling by roughly 75%. Khora is easier to pick up now since combo-building is simpler, but her identity has shifted fully toward loot specialization rather than damage. She still does that better than almost anyone.
- Hydroid (and Hydroid Prime): The best solo farming frame. Pilfering Swarm lets you set up camp in a Grineer Galleon and generate resources indefinitely. He also armor-strips and handles more mobile playstyles than Nekros, making him the more flexible option when you need to move around.
S-tier: the frames you build first
Every frame here either dominates a content category or provides utility so strong that squads are actively worse without them. If you are expanding your roster, start here.
Which support frames are worth the investment?
Wisp (and Wisp Prime) is the most popular support frame in the game, and the reasons are straightforward: Reservoirs provide squad-wide fire rate and health pool increases, Breach Surge blinds crowds, and the permanent invisibility from bunny-hopping is a genuinely useful survival tool. Stack Ability Strength, drop your motes, and you are contributing to any squad composition.
Dante generates Overguard, and that single fact explains why he is S-tier. A great Exalted ability, Arcane slottability, a built-in Slash nuke, and the best squad support in the game make him the default pick for Netracell and Archon Hunt squads. He was nerfed hard after launch because his kit was too versatile, but even post-nerf he remains one of the strongest frames available.
Hildryn (and Hildryn Prime) excels specifically in Endurance Deep Archimedea and Endurance Temporal Archimedea runs because none of the debuffs in those modes can affect her. Aegis Gale gives her a large AoE Exalted that can be genuinely disruptive at max build. She used to be primarily an armor-strip vehicle via Pillage, but she is a well-rounded frame now.
What are the best DPS frames right now?
Saryn (and Saryn Prime) has been consistently S-tier since her release, which is over twelve years of uninterrupted top-tier relevance. Spores with Toxic Lash remains the best area DPS scaling in the game for dense Steel Path and Sanctuary Onslaught, and her Augment turns her into arguably the strongest gun-buffing frame available.
Nokko is the biggest recent riser. The fungal frame can self-sustain both health and Energy, lock down entire rooms with sleep, deal millions of damage with Sporespring, and becomes literally unkillable with a single mushroom active. Community vote data and editorial consensus both place him at S-tier after initially underestimating him.
Cyte-09 looks like a single-target specialist but plays much wider than that. The Neutralize Exalted Sniper handles crowd-clearing once you adjust to it, and the meta Sobek build with Acid Shells turns him into a kill-per-minute powerhouse. Resupply and Seek make him one of the best squad utility providers on top of the damage output.
Volt (and Volt Prime) brings a damage-blocking Shield, the iconic Sanctuary Onslaught nuke, and Capacitance for serious durability. Shock Trooper is currently the best way to expand Melee Influence scope, which gives Volt an extra layer of relevance in melee-focused builds.
Revenant (and Revenant Prime) was the most-played frame in 2024 and has since been overtaken by Wukong and Volt, but Mesmer Skin remains one of the most reliable survival tools in the game. Enemy damage scaling at level cap, Eximus status effects, boss mechanics: Mesmer Skin handles all of it. He is a limited kit outside of Thrall and Danse Macabre builds in Steel Path, but that one trick covers a lot of content.
Nezha (and Nezha Prime) requires an Augment mod and a Helminth slot, so he is not S-tier out of the gate. With that investment, Thermal Sunder becomes one of the best instant-nuke setups in Steel Path, and Warding Halo handles survivability. A two or three-button room clear with built-in defense.
Protea (and Protea Prime) is the best all-purpose frame for daily content outside of EDA and ETA, where personal modifiers cut into her kit. Shield Satellites provide one of the best instant shield restores in the game for squads, and Blaze Artillery paired with a group-up tool clears Steel Path hordes quickly. Heat-inherit primer builds push her further for high-level viability.
Uriel has the most impactful Ultimate ability of any summoner frame. The companions are the most useful in the game, and interacting with their chaining and runecrafting charges up an escalating series of Heat damage ticks that can kill the toughest Steel Path enemies without a single Ability Strength mod. The charge time is the only thing keeping him from being a clean S-tier pick rather than a high A-plus.
A-tier: strong picks with specific strengths
These frames can be the best option in particular niches and are often only a few targeted buffs away from S-tier. Mastering them pays off.
Banshee deserves special mention after the Update 44 rework removed her animation locks. Evade Banshee for permanent invisibility, Gloom Banshee, Gaseous Quake Banshee: multiple viable paths now exist, and all of them produce strong results. She was always a sleeper pick for overkill damage, and weak point standardization across the game made her even better.
Nidus jumped from C-tier to A-tier after the Update 43 retouch. You can now reach 500 Mutation stacks, and with Augments that translates to 50,000-plus HP. Combine that with Arcane Grace, crowd control, a critical chance boost, and a refreshable group-up ability, and Nidus is close to unkillable.
Octavia has one of the highest ceilings in the game for endurance missions, but fully using her infinite scaling method requires committing to an ability-maintenance minigame. Players who enjoy that playstyle can reasonably argue she belongs in S-tier.

B-tier: functional but outpaced
Being in B-tier does not make a frame bad. Several of these frames are genuinely enjoyable and can handle most content. They just require more investment to reach the same output as A-tier options, or they have been superseded by newer releases in their niche.
- Ash (and Ash Prime): The Techrot Encore rework gave Ash 12 seconds of base invisibility duration, tying him with Loki for the highest-duration invis in the game. Blade Storm is easier to proc now. The residual gameplay jank is still there, but he is meaningfully better than he was.
- Ember (and Ember Prime): Got a rework in Jade Shadows with Energy economy and quality-of-life improvements, but still does not crack the top 5 nukers. Armor stripping is no longer a unique niche, and both Temple and Saryn do the fire damage thing better.
- Frost (and Frost Prime): Years of incremental buffs have made him versatile, with Overguard, armor strip, crowd control, and real crit output from Biting Frost plus Cold status interactions. The problem is that almost everything useful about Frost comes from Avalanche. One exceptional ability does not make an S-tier frame.
- Equinox (and Equinox Prime): Maim is the only part of the kit that offers something genuinely unique now, useful for clearing a Defense wave quickly. The rest of the kit has been power-crept into irrelevance.
- Sirius and Orion: The dual-frame concept is interesting, but Celestial Clash does not room-nuke even after the damage-over-time additions in the b-patch. A frame that requires build-up and attention should pay off harder than this. Strong candidate to climb to A-tier with a numbers buff and a good Augment mod.
- Narin: The newest Cold frame does not share Frost's problem of needing too many Augments, but she is a one-trick frame. The Ultimate requires build-up, drains quickly at low Ability Duration, and needs a finicky reticle to aim above an enemy's head before dealing any damage. The damage ceiling is genuinely high when everything aligns, but the build constraints are severe and the kit forces a very specific playstyle.
Other B-tier frames include Atlas, Baruuk, Excalibur, Follie, Harrow, Hydroid, Inaros, Ivara, Koumei, Oberon, Temple, Trinity, Valkyr, and Yareli.
C-tier and D-tier: frames that need work
Chroma (and Chroma Prime) is almost exclusively useful for Profit Taker runs and credit farming in Hollvania. With only two real abilities and persistent usability issues, he is close to Mastery Fodder territory.
Limbo (and Limbo Prime) moved up from D-tier after Nullifier bubbles stopped deleting his Cataclysm on contact. He has some use cases that other frames cannot replicate, but they are narrow.
Loki (and Loki Prime) is the only frame currently sitting in D-tier as a genuine "needs buffs" case. His disarm, invisibility, distraction, and position-swap toolkit was uniquely powerful in 2014 when infinite scaling was rare. After the Ash rework in Techrot Encore, Ash matches Loki's invisibility duration, and the rest of Loki's kit has no equivalent in modern endgame content. The only place he remains indisputably useful is Riven Challenges requiring wall-latch.
What are the best Warframes for beginners?
The three starter frames cover different learning curves. Excalibur is the safest choice, with Radial Blind and Exalted Blade teaching core combat patterns. Volt is the better long-term starter: Speed and Discharge teach map pace, and he graduates naturally into Gauss and Wisp playstyles. Mag has a high ceiling with Magnetize but punishes players who do not learn her bubble mechanics quickly.
After picking a starter, farm Rhino from the Venus Jackal as your first target. Iron Skin and Roar make him one of the most forgiving A-tier tanks in the game and he will carry you through the mid-game. From the Clan Dojo, Wukong and Nezha are strong solo progression picks. Long-term, work toward Wisp, Saryn, Dante, or Nokko as your S-tier goals.

What is coming next?
After Narin, one more frame is confirmed for 2026: Brysko. Details are limited to two known abilities: a card-throw that deals damage and stun, and an Exalted snub-nosed magnum where you can fan the hammer. The 2025 frame lineup was not a high bar to clear, and Brysko's Exalted handgun concept at least sounds more distinctive than recent additions.
Building toward the meta
Knowing where frames rank is only half the equation. The other half is building them correctly.
