Moonfrost Introduces Frost Arcade

Moonfrost, the cozy farming and life-simulation game that initially embraced web3 gaming, has pivoted its strategy. The studio announced it will no longer launch through Open Loot and will instead release Moonfrost as a premium PC title on Steam. The upcoming version will exclude all crypto integrations, including NFTs and tokens.

The development team explained that the shift follows extensive internal evaluation. The developers stated that the original goal was to build a game capable of attracting both web2 and web3 audiences, regardless of blockchain technology. However, after more than a year of development, the team found that expectations between these two audiences differed significantly, with web3 players prioritizing financial utility and web2 players seeking gameplay-focused experiences.

Why the Steam Release Makes Sense

The decision to move to Steam appears to be driven by the scale of Moonfrost itself. The developers stated that Moonfrost is a large and complex game, and that the pace required to satisfy a web3 audience was not sustainable. By shifting to Steam, the team gains the ability to focus on creating a polished standalone game without the pressure of maintaining blockchain-driven updates.

The studio explained that releasing on Steam opens the door to a broader audience and more traditional game discovery, allowing players to engage without needing wallets, tokens, or onboarding to a web3 platform. This approach positions Moonfrost within the mainstream PC market, rather than splitting development efforts across two audiences with different expectations.

Web3 Supporters Get Frost Arcade

While Moonfrost's Steam version moves away from blockchain integrations, the studio assured early web3 supporters that their involvement still matters. Instead of abandoning web3 development entirely, the team introduced Frost Arcade, a new browser-based gaming ecosystem designed specifically for web3 engagement.

Frost Arcade is intended to feature smaller, lightweight games that can be built and released at a faster pace than the main Moonfrost project. Existing Moonfrost digital items and currencies - such as collectibles, premium currency balances, and Frost Hunter Licences - will continue to hold value and utility within Frost Arcade's ecosystem. This allows web3 supporters to retain the benefits of their previous involvement, even as Moonfrost becomes a traditional premium PC experience.

The development structure will now be split across two teams, with one group focused on Moonfrost for Steam and another leading the development of Frost Arcade. The goal is to avoid compromise and ensure both projects have clear direction.

A Dual Path Intended to Serve Both Communities

The studio emphasized that separating the two initiatives is a move toward sustainability. Moonfrost on Steam becomes a straightforward premium game for a general audience, while Frost Arcade becomes a dedicated home for blockchain-integrated gameplay. The team stated that more details will be shared soon regarding how existing players' items will transfer into the new system.

The developers also thanked their community for ongoing support and expressed confidence that this new direction will allow Moonfrost and Frost Arcade to grow without undermining one another.
