The wait is finally over
Nintendo has officially confirmed a Nintendo Direct is happening tomorrow, 9th June 2026, and the gaming internet has predictably lost its mind. Announced through the Nintendo Today! app, the showcase runs approximately 50 minutes and covers upcoming games for both Switch 1 and Switch 2.
Here's the thing: this is the first full general Direct since the Switch 2 launched, and Nintendo's first-party release calendar for the second half of 2026 is looking noticeably thin. That context alone makes this a bigger deal than your average showcase.
When and how to watch
The Direct kicks off at the following times across regions:
The Direct itself runs roughly 50 minutes, but that's not where the day ends. A 90-minute Nintendo Treehouse: Live session follows immediately after, featuring extended gameplay of select titles from the showcase. That's a serious chunk of content, and Treehouse slots tend to go to games that are fairly close to release.
Nintendo has not specified a runtime for the Direct itself in the announcement, though 50 minutes is the figure circulating from the Nintendo Today! app reveal. The 90-minute Treehouse is separately confirmed.
What Nintendo actually needs to show
Nintendo's Switch 2 launch window has been solid but not spectacular. Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave remains the most prominent upcoming first-party title still without a firm release date, and it's the kind of game that could anchor the back half of the year if Nintendo pulls the trigger on a window tomorrow.
The rumour mill has been pointing hard at an Ocarina of Time remake for months, and with the Legend of Zelda movie in production, the timing for a major Zelda announcement has rarely made more sense from a marketing standpoint. Whether that means a full remake, a remaster, or something else entirely is still anybody's guess.
Beyond Zelda, the community speculation covers a wide range: Mario Kart World DLC, more details on The Duskbloods, a Splatoon Raiders release window, and the ever-present hope for a new 3D Mario. Third-party announcements are also on the table, with ports of games like Metaphor: ReFantazio and Expedition 33 among the most-wanted arrivals for Switch 2 owners.
The Treehouse session is where things get interesting. Nintendo typically uses that format for games releasing within a few months, so the 90-minute runtime suggests at least two or three titles are close enough to show in depth. Star Fox and Rhythm Heaven Groove are strong candidates given their expected summer windows.
The lowdown for Switch 2 owners
Pro tip: if you want to go in fresh, now is the time to mute your social feeds. Nintendo announced this with roughly 24 hours notice, which is standard practice for them, but it also means leaks and datamine speculation are already flying. The next 18 hours before the show are going to be noisy.
