No Rest for the Wicked was supposed to hit version 1.0 this October. That's no longer happening. Moon Studios announced today that the full launch has been pushed back to March 2027 for PC and PlayStation 5, missing the previously confirmed October 2026 window by roughly five months.
From Early Access to a longer road than expected
The game first landed on Steam Early Access back on April 18, 2024. Moon Studios spent the better part of two-plus years iterating on it there, and earlier this year confirmed October 2026 as the 1.0 target for PC and PS5, with Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 to follow at unspecified later dates. Those console dates are still up in the air.
The delay isn't framed as a crisis. Creative Director Thomas Mahler put out a community video explaining the reasoning, and Moon's official statement points to three specific areas: gameplay performance, the class system, and general polish. That's a fairly honest list. Performance and class depth are exactly the kinds of things that tend to make or break an ARPG at launch, and Moon clearly doesn't want to ship something that needs a week-one patch to feel right.
What Moon is doing with the extra time
The studio isn't going quiet until March. Closed beta tests are planned for the coming months, followed by a full open beta in December. That open beta gives the community a real chance to stress-test the build before 1.0 locks in, which is genuinely useful for a game this systems-heavy.
Ongoing updates will come through the "Wicked Inside" developer diary series on the Moon Studios YouTube channel, where Thomas Mahler and the team have been fairly candid about design decisions and development hurdles. Here's the thing: studios that communicate this openly during a delay tend to handle the final stretch better than ones that go dark.
Founders Pack extended for early buyers
For anyone who already bought in on PC, the Founders Pack cutoff has been moved from July 10 to January 1, 2027. Anyone who purchased after the original July 10 deadline has been retroactively included, which is a clean way to handle it. PS5 pre-orders open in January 2027 and also qualify for the pack.
The Founders Pack includes:
- Spirit Cavern , a hand-crafted secret hideout exclusive to early adopters
- Sayer's Vow , an exclusive sword in the stone that only Founders can extract in the game world
- Custom Founders Tag , a permanent marker identifying early supporters
- Exclusive Public Beta Test Realm , permanent access to a Founders-only beta realm, even after 1.0 launches
That last point is worth noting. Permanent access to a separate test realm post-launch is an unusual perk, and it keeps early supporters connected to the game's development in a tangible way rather than just handing out cosmetics.
Five months is a meaningful gap
October to March is not a small slip. It's five months of additional work on a game that has already been in Early Access for over two years. That said, Moon Studios has been transparent about what needs fixing, and the class system in particular has been a recurring point of community feedback throughout the Early Access period. Tightening it before 1.0 makes more sense than shipping it half-formed and patching it after.
The Xbox Series and Switch 2 versions remain without dates, which means console players outside PS5 are in a holding pattern with no clear timeline.
If you're jumping into the Early Access build while you wait, the No Rest for the Wicked best builds guide is worth checking out given that the class system is still being tuned. And if you're newer to the game, the No Rest for the Wicked beginner's guide will get you up to speed before the 1.0 build lands in March.
