Two types of quartz. Two completely different biomes. And if you mix them up, you'll waste a lot of time hiking through the wrong part of the map.
Palworld splits its quartz resources between Pure Quartz and Hexolite Quartz, and while both are valuable late-game materials, they serve different crafting purposes and spawn in entirely separate regions. Getting clear on which is which saves a lot of frustration.
Pure Quartz lives in the cold, but there's a workaround
Pure Quartz spawns in the Astra Mountains, one of the harsher zones in the game thanks to its extreme cold temperatures. The good news is that deposits also appear along the eastern coastline of the region, where the terrain stays grassy and the cold is far less punishing. If you're not geared up for a full cold-weather expedition yet, those coastal nodes are your best entry point.
Having a mining Pal like Tombat in your party speeds up collection considerably. The key here is pairing your run with a Pal that has a high mining work suitability rating, since Pure Quartz nodes take more hits than basic ore.
What makes Pure Quartz worth the trek is its role in crafting Circuit Boards, which feed directly into electrical blueprints including advanced workbenches and assembly lines. Without Circuit Boards, your base progression stalls hard at mid-game.
Hexolite Quartz is a Feybreak Island exclusive
Hexolite Quartz is found on Feybreak Island, which sits in a separate part of the world map from the Astra Mountains. The mineral has a distinct look and a different crafting path, feeding into Hexolite armor rather than electrical components. You'll need to hit Technology Level 59 before those armor recipes become available, so there's no rush to stockpile it early.
The farming situation mirrors Pure Quartz in structure. A Hexolite Quartz Mine unlocks on the Ancient Technology tree at Level 63, letting your Pals handle the grind while you focus on other things.
Here's a quick comparison of both resources:
What this means for your progression path
Both quartzs represent a clear signal of where you are in Palworld's late-game loop. Pure Quartz pushes your base infrastructure forward through electrical crafting, while Hexolite Quartz upgrades your combat readiness through armor. Neither is optional if you're pushing toward the highest-tier content.
The biome separation is intentional design. Pocketpair gates each resource behind a distinct region, meaning you'll need to have explored both the Astra Mountains and Feybreak Island before your crafting options fully open up. Players who skip either zone will find their build options noticeably limited.
For a broader look at where other rare materials spawn across the map, the Palworld rare resources locations guide covers everything from Soralite on floating islands to Ancient Civilization Cores. And if you're still working through material fundamentals, the full Palworld guides collection has you covered on everything from hardwood farming to Pal locations.
