STAR WARS: Galactic Racer launches today with a stacked multiplayer roster of 19 playable characters, and every single one of them brings a distinct Racer Style to the grid. Fuse Games built the cast directly from the campaign's supporting lineup, meaning the alien racers you met during the story are the same ones you'll be chasing down in online events.
The base roster and how it's structured
Shade, the campaign protagonist, is the only character you get for free from the jump. The Ramjet Rider style comes equipped by default, and no unlock condition is attached. Everyone else in the standard multiplayer pool sits behind a progression wall, starting at Multiplayer Rank 2 and stretching all the way to Rank 40.
Here's the thing: the unlock curve is deliberate. Early ranks hand over characters quickly. Katja Mox (Tech Expert) unlocks at Rank 2, Griff Halloran (Afterburner) at Rank 4, and Ary Quill (Redliner) at Rank 6. The spacing tightens as you push deeper into the roster, with the final three characters gated at Ranks 30, 34, and 40 respectively.
Full character unlock table
Thirteen characters make up the standard pool. Kestar Bool at Rank 40 is the clear endgame target, and the Weaponised Racer Style attached to that unlock suggests a playstyle built around aggression.
The Podracing mode adds six more
The 13 standard characters are not the full picture. Galactic Racer includes a dedicated Podracing mode with six additional racers, all of them unlocked automatically once you hit Multiplayer Level 5. That mode does not open on day one for fresh accounts, but the six characters come as a package deal the moment the mode becomes available.
What most players miss is that the Podracing roster operates as a separate pool entirely. Those six characters are not interchangeable with the standard multiplayer roster, so the total playable count across both modes sits at 19.
What the Racer Style system actually means for you
Every character in Galactic Racer is tied to a named Racer Style, and that style is not cosmetic. Each one corresponds to a distinct set of Parts, which is the game's term for the upgrades and equipment that define how your vehicle handles. Picking Sen Fira (Slipstreamer) versus Malis Vazosk (Brawler) is not just an aesthetic call; it sets the foundation of your build before you touch a single customization option.
The key here is that chasing a specific playstyle may mean grinding toward a specific rank target rather than just unlocking whoever looks coolest. Rank 24 for Sen Fira's Slipstreamer style is a reasonable mid-game goal for players who prefer drafting-focused strategies, while Rank 40 for Kestar Bool will take a serious time investment.
For everything else you need heading into launch, the Star Wars: Galactic Racer strategy guides cover editions, pre-order bonuses, and exact regional start times to make sure you are in the seat when the lights go out.
