Steam Next Fest June 2026 is here, bringing thousands of playable demos to PC players eager to discover the next big indie hit. Running from June 15–22, the event is packed with everything from action games and strategy titles to sports brawlers and experimental adventures.
With so many games competing for attention, finding the standouts can be a challenge. After spending time with several demos, three in particular left a strong impression: Junkyard Stories: Rebirth, Endless Rails, and Field of Heroes. Each offers something completely different, but all three are worth adding to your Steam Next Fest download queue.

Junkyard Stories: Rebirth
Junkyard Stories: Rebirth is a dystopian stealth platformer that hooks you with its atmosphere before its systems fully reveal themselves.
You play as a broken robot carrying a hacker's mind toward Block-07, accompanied by a floating companion drone. The core mechanic revolves around swapping between the two bodies to hack terminals, sneak past guards, and navigate areas the larger robot cannot access alone.
The game doesn't pull punches when it comes to punishment. I repeatedly died attempting a ledge drop because I had ignored a giant on-screen warning that clearly stated the fall was too high. Batteries are essential for maintaining your charge, repair kits help offset damage from drone gunfire, and human enemies can still eliminate you instantly if you recklessly sprint past them.
The demo culminates in a hoverboard sequence that delivers chaotic excitement in all the right ways. More importantly, the closing shot of the city was enough to leave me wanting to see what the full campaign has in store.
Play it if: You're looking for an atmosphere-first stealth platformer with clever companion-based puzzles and meaningful fail states. The demo is brief, but it does an excellent job of selling the larger experience.

Endless Rails
If you've ever wondered what a bullet heaven game would look like with trains, Endless Rails has the answer.
Rather than controlling a lone survivor armed with increasingly ridiculous weaponry, you are the train itself, defending a convoy as it pushes through a monster-infested wasteland.
Movement is split between managing a drone swarm with WASD and controlling train speed using the arrow keys. Between waves, players can visit stations, merge flatbed cars, and expand their arsenal with flamethrowers, ice towers, support modules, and more.
One mechanic initially caught me off guard. I assumed weapons needed to match in order to merge train cars. They don't. Only the car level matters. Once I figured that out, combinations like ice towers paired with drones became the backbone of my most successful runs.
Not every attempt ended in victory. One run came to an end at Station Ten, while another fell apart during Wave Eleven when a boss continuously spawned enemies until the screen became packed with threats. Despite the minimalist presentation, the action remains surprisingly readable even when the chaos reaches its peak.
Play it if: You want a loud, satisfying convoy-defense roguelike rather than a train simulator. After all, everything is better with trains — even bullet heaven games.

Field of Heroes
Field of Heroes combines football, hero abilities, and over-the-top combat into a fast-paced 5v5 online sports brawler.
The premise is simple: score goals while preventing the opposing team from doing the same. The twist is that players are armed with weapons and abilities designed to tackle, stun, and otherwise disrupt anyone carrying the ball.
During my first few matches against bots, I discovered a surprisingly effective strategy. By kicking the ball toward opponents, I could prevent them from engaging in combat, slide through defenders as Prowler, and score with relative ease.
Then a real player joined.
Suddenly, every predictable move was punished. They anticipated every kick, pressured me whenever I gained possession, and forced me to actually engage with the football side of the game rather than relying on cheesy tactics. The experience immediately became more competitive—and more enjoyable.
Among the available heroes, Horace stands out. Is the tank character wielding a massive mace the most efficient pick? Probably not. Is it the most fun? Absolutely.
The Sandworm map introduces additional objectives that demand team coordination amid the chaos, helping matches feel more dynamic. There are still areas that need refinement, particularly the power-shot controls, but even in its current state, a single skilled human opponent completely transformed my perception of the demo.
Play it if: You enjoy arcade sports games that evolve into serious competition the moment real players enter the field. It's also a great spectator game with plenty of entertaining moments.

Final Thoughts
Steam Next Fest June 2026 is packed with potential discoveries, but these three demos stood out for very different reasons. Junkyard Stories: Rebirth delivers memorable atmosphere and stealth-focused gameplay, Endless Rails offers a fresh spin on the bullet heaven formula, and Field of Heroes turns sports and combat into an unexpectedly compelling multiplayer experience.
With thousands of demos available during the event, these are just a few highlights—but they're excellent places to start if you're looking for your next Steam wishlist addition. I'm excited to spend more time exploring the rest of the festival, and hopefully you'll discover a few favorites of your own along the way.
