Storycraft Raises $3 Million for AI-Powered Game

Montreal-based game platform Storycraft has raised $3 million in a seed funding round aimed at accelerating the development and global launch of its AI-powered multiplayer mobile game. The funding round was led by Khosla Ventures, with continued participation from London Venture Partners (LVP) and Signalfire, who previously led a $2 million pre-seed round. The investment will support team growth, product development, and preparations for the public beta release expected later this year.

Founded by Andy Mauro, a longtime innovator in applied artificial intelligence, Storycraft is designed to turn players into creators. Mauro previously led projects such as Nuance’s Nina, the first enterprise mobile voice assistant, and Automat, a chatbot technology company acquired in 2021. With Storycraft, his goal is to create a platform where anyone can build, explore, and share original story worlds, regardless of technical or design background.

The game combines generative AI with multiplayer gameplay, allowing users to collaboratively develop characters, environments, and narratives. Mauro describes Storycraft as an effort to make storytelling as accessible and interactive as building worlds in games like Minecraft. Rather than focusing solely on gameplay mechanics, Storycraft encourages players to immerse themselves in the creative process, offering a new way to express ideas through story-driven play.

Social and Creative Gaming Experience

Storycraft integrates several elements that distinguish it from traditional mobile games. At the core of the experience is a set of AI worldbuilding tools that allow users to create a wide variety of in-game assets, from characters and structures to lighting effects and items. These tools enable players to personalize each world and contribute to a larger, interconnected universe. The game also promotes social interaction, with players able to visit each other’s story worlds, contribute to ongoing narratives, and interact with AI characters that request items or assistance, creating an ongoing cycle of inspiration and activity.

The platform’s economy is entirely user-generated, with all content created by players. This model allows users to earn, trade, and showcase their work across the shared universe. According to the development team, Storycraft is the first game in which every element within the experience is made by its players, reinforcing its role as a platform for creativity and collaboration.

In addition to its technical and social features, Storycraft places a strong emphasis on emotional storytelling. The AI functions as a creative partner, helping players shape ideas and respond dynamically to narrative developments. Early feedback from users suggests that the game has helped some individuals overcome creative challenges such as writer’s block, and even inspired them to re-engage with other creative activities such as painting.

Community Engagement and Future Outlook

Since the launch of its open alpha, Storycraft has attracted a growing community of users who have collectively created thousands of unique worlds and hundreds of thousands of in-game characters and structures. These creations span a wide range of genres including fantasy, science fiction, romance, horror, and post-apocalyptic settings. Notably, most player-made worlds are original and not based on existing intellectual properties, highlighting the platform’s role in encouraging personal and imaginative storytelling.

Vinod Khosla, founder of Khosla Ventures, emphasized the role of artificial intelligence in broadening access to creative tools. He noted that Storycraft introduces a new kind of social gameplay in which players are not only participants but also creators of the digital environments they inhabit.

Storycraft is built on Google Cloud and is being developed for a multiplatform global release. The newly secured funding will allow the company to expand its team and prepare for broader deployment. As interest in platforms that blend creativity, AI, and social interaction continues to grow, Storycraft aims to position itself as a unique offering in the evolving landscape of mobile gaming and web3-adjacent digital experiences.
